  CAMP KURATLI AT TRESTLE GLEN MISSION STATEMENT:

  The Salvation Army Camp Kuratli at Trestle Glen will be a Christian sanctuary of rest, discovery, and growth to the neediest children in Oregon and Southern Idaho.

  SCOPE OF POSITION:

  Coordinate daily campers’ activities including organized recreation, electives, cabin activities, free time, and camp wide game.

  EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.

  Must have a valid Driver’s License, and Salvation Army Vehicle Test.

  2 seasons of summer camp experience or 1 year in equivalent work required.

  Must be at least 18 years of age.

  Lifeguard certification preferred, not required.

  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  Desire to work with youth, teens, and young adults.

  Ability to supervise and provide guidance to staff and campers.

  Ability to diffuse stressful situations with staff and campers.

  Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrative commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in spiritual leadership.

  Ability to operate a telephone.

  Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.

  Ability to access and produce information from a computer.

  Possess leadership skills with the ability to plan, originate, organize, and execute special programs.

  Ability to teach and lead many activities.

  Ability to communicate well with others from diverse backgrounds, ages, and nationalities.

  Ability to work in groups.

  Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.

  Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities.

  Ability to work with minimal supervision and be comfortable working with a high degree of independence.

  Ability to make independent decisions that may involve unique or unusual situations and/or complex issues and dealing with demanding requests or timelines.

  Good character, integrity, and adaptability.

  Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.

  Detail oriented.

  Self-starter.

  Ability to read, write and communicate well in the English language.

  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Plan and lead daily camp wide organized recreation.

  Complete weekly recreation outline for upcoming camp sessions and implement rainy day activities as needed.

  Schedule and coordinate resources for electives, cabin activity and free time.

  Support cabin leaders in electives regarding sign-up, assigning, location, supplies and preparation, input into the camp management software and implementation.

  Ensure and provide for the supervision and safety of campers and staff during camp activities such as first day procedures, camp wide games, electives, free time activities and cabin activity.

  Communicate regularly with the Youth Program Specialist, Assistant Program Director, and other staff to ensure the successful execution of each activity.

  Coordinate with the Youth Program Specialist, Nurse and Leadership team for possible medical transportation as needed and may be asked to drive or accompany hospital transport of campers or staff.

  Lead Elective Development Session during orientation.

  Communicate with Service Crew Chief to make sure supplies and areas are set up.

  Work with lifeguards to implement water activities.

  Be a positive support member of the summer leadership team.

  General Duties:

  Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with campers

  Attend and participate in programs and spiritual activities.

  Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.

  Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.

  Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.

  Ensure and provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers and staff.

  Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as required e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.

  Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of cabins and outside areas.

  Perform any other duties as assigned by the Youth Program Specialist, Divisional Youth Secretaries and/or Camp Administrator.

  May be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor at times during the season.

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike and twist on a continuous basis for up to 15-20 minutes or prolonged periods at a time.

  Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead.

  Ability to lift to 25 lbs. on occasion up to 50 lbs. (i.e., Sports Equipment)

  Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

  WORKING CONDITIONS:

  There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.

  May be required to work in all camp areas including the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility and grounds.

  Working in a distinctively Christian environment.

  Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

  Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.

  Work around dust, odor, and high noise levels.

  Pool/ Water activities.

  MISCELLANEOUS:

  The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

  The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
