About the Department
The Biological Sciences Division (BSD) is the largest operating unit ofthe University of Chicago. It includes the Pritzker School of Medicine,twenty-three academic departments, twelve interdisciplinarydegree-granting committees, and more than a dozen research centers andinstitutes. The BSD\'s mission is to discover and create new knowledgeof living systems, to preserve and communicate knowledge througheducation, and to nurture and sustain a community of scholars. Thesescholars pursue this mission through research, the education of basicscientists, physicians, and others interested in living things, andthrough enlightened and compassionate care of patients in a humane,academic environment. We have a long and rich history of discovery.
Our academic departments have each developed and sustained outstandingprograms of research and training in a broad range of programs. Theseare further enhanced by interdisciplinary committees, centers, andinstitutes. Unique among our peers, our Pritzker School of Medicine andbasic biological science programs are housed in one division, allowingfor strong collaborations between basic science and clinical research.Faculty, staff, and students interact across programs and disciplines,creating collaborative and innovative approaches to the study of complexproblems. As a part of the BSD Dean\'s Office, BSD Finance works closelywith the executive leaders and financial professionals within the BSD,University, and Medical Center. It currently has a total staff of 16people.
Job Summary
This position performs routine activities to adhere to accountingpolicies and controls, fiscal controls, and preparing financial reports.Maintains accounting and financial records, including general ledger,financial statements, regulatory, and management reports at theinstruction of managers. Under general supervision, performs a varietyof operating, cost accounting, or internal control activities. Performscomponents of the monthly closing process, including the production ofthe monthly financial report.
Responsibilities
Assists in preparation of financial statements and various otheraccounting statements and reports.Assists in month-end and year-end close process; includes submittingjournal entries, reviewing transactions to ensure accurate financialreporting.Generates monthly faculty, staff, research, and clinical metrics.Oversees and maintains University related systems, including expensemanagement and procurement systems. Acts as liaison betweenUniversity Shared Services and departments.Maintains and updates the accounting system in preparation for newfinancial system.Prepares discretionary spend analysis.Reviews estimated expenditures for capital project reporting.Develops expenditure projections and provides periodic budgetvariance reports.Monitors lease transactions for incorrect account usage.Acts as a resource for team members and solves complex problems.Performs a variety of routine operating or cost accountingactivities which require basic knowledge of accounting theories andprinciples.Examines accounting records for the purpose of determining gains andlosses, receipts and disbursements, and inventory.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor\' degree in finance or accounting is strongly preferred.Coursework in accounting and finance.Strong educational background with a focus on business, economics,or related technical field.Experience:
Preferred experience in a university or academic medical center.Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.Technical Skills or Knowledge:
