The Computer Science Department in The Grainger College ofEngineering seeks applicants for an Academic Advisor, CS ChicagoPrograms position. Under direction from the Associate Head for ChicagoOperations and External Partnerships and the Computer Science Urbanagraduate advising office, and in close alignment with The GraingerCollege of Engineering and the Discovery Partners Institute (DPI), thisposition supports the advising and administration efforts for ComputerScience (CS) programs in Chicago.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Advising:
Advise current Chicago students on the fulfillment of degreerequirements and other academic needs.Work with other graduate academic advisors and professional staff inadvising Computer Science graduate students on the fulfillment ofdegree requirements and other academic needs.Coordinate the orientation activities of incoming students, such asdepartmental check-in activities and welcome sessions.Maintain familiarity with departmental and university graduateprogram procedures and ensure graduate program policies are incompliance with those of the University.Serve as a departmental contact for Optional Practical Training(OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requests forinternational students in the Chicago academic programs incompliance with ISSS guidelines.Admissions:
Coordinate and participate in activities of application processing,such as independently evaluating transcripts and standardized testscores which meet departmental requirements and managing the flow ofapplication information.Maintain familiarity with departmental and university admissionspolicy requirements and procedures.Receive, review and process applications to the Chicago MCS program,including reviewing of credentials. Follow up with applicants onmissing items and receipt of required documentation and respond toapplicant inquiries for information. Respond to inquiries fromprospective students via email and other virtual communicationmethods such as periodic office hours. Communicate with the GraduateCollege to address applicant needs and process admissions.Serve as staff liaison in Chicago for the CS Graduate AdmissionsCommittee. Organize, schedule, and attend meetings pertaining tograduate admissions and initiatives. Maintain the departmentalapplication databases with application status. Advise the admissionscommittee and other CS faculty to maintain accurate admissionspolicies that are consistent with University admissionsrequirements.Support maintenance of the graduate program's admissions pages onthe website and assist with various publications providingadmissions information for prospective students. Develop tools forscaling the admissions review process. Provide input for developmentof new admission procedures, policies, and practices when requestedby senior management.Prepare various correspondence for newly admitted graduate studentsand follow up through matriculation.Outreach Efforts and site management
Collaborate with the CS Director of External Relations on the Urbanacampus to maintain and grow the Corporate Connections activities inChicago. Facilitate networking activities between CS students andfaculty and corporate partners, assist with marketing and outreachactivities to engage new corporate partners, communicate regularlywith existing partners, etc.Collaborate wi h the DPI, Engineering City Scholars, IQUIST andother University of Illinois programs and activities in Chicago.Serve as backup for site management: support all aspects of dailyoperations including classes, seminars, workshops, researchmeetings, and networking activities.Information Management:
Develop/compile/maintain statistics pertinent to the Chicago MCSprogram.Curate, track, and communicate language proficiency requirements foradmitted and continuing students.Data management, analyses, and reporting. Curate the admissions datafor the graduate programs. Conduct periodic surveys of applicants,admitted students, and other stakeholders. Prepare reports on thegraduate program, applications, and admissions for the Department,Grainger College of Engineering, and Graduate College.Recruiting:
Coordinate activities associated with Chicago MCS student recruitingevents such as QA sessions, meeting with visiting students,organizing internal and external informational events forprospective students, collaborating with departmental stakeholdersto organize and deliver programming for recruits.Work outside of regular business hours as required to facilitate andattend special events, including evenings and occasional weekends.Assume additional appropriate related duties to further the missionof the department.Minimum Qualificatio
