Qualifications
LSU Shreveport seeks a full time Academic Advisor for the College of Arts and Sciences.
The primary duties will be to advise full-time undergraduate students in the College from matriculation to about 45 hours. Each semester the Advisor will ensure that these students are successfully pre-registered for subsequent semester(s). The Advisor will prepare schedules for all incoming students prior to each New Student Orientation and will oversee Recruitment staff and faculty volunteers at NSO to ensure that students register for recommended classes.
In addition, the Advisor will:
Advise a small number of non-degree-seeking students on an ongoing basis
Develop presentations, conduct group advising workshops, and design activities that provide additional academic support for our freshmen
Serve as a liaison with our Student Success Center, helping students take advantage of its resources, and work with those freshmen who appear to be at-risk after initial course assessments
Assist as requested at on-campus recruiting events hosted by Recruitment, Events Management, and the College
Assist the Associate Dean on visits to schools served through our Academic Excellence Program (Early College)
Work with Instructors of the Freshman Seminars required of all first-time full-time students, visiting FS classes to offer resources as students learn how to navigate college
Support faculty advisors through workshops on best advising practices
Collect and maintain data related to advising activities and their effectiveness
Qualifications:
--Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a discipline found in the Arts and Sciences
--Experience working with people in a leadership capacity
--Experience working as part of a team
--Excellent verbal and written communication skills
--Excellent interpersonal skills
--Well-organized with the ability to multi-task
--Willing and able to occasionally work in the evening and on the
weekend
