　　Chicago Transit Authority is the second largest transit system in the country! Our college internship program offers summer and year-long internships that provide students with valuable work experience, professional development, and mentorship. Students receive exposure to the discipline of the workplace and are guided by subject matter experts who assist them in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to perform in today’s technically demanding careers. Interns at CTA work in a range of departments across the authority.

　　Our internships are project-based; therefore, the skills that we seek vary based on the needs of the projects during each term. All majors are welcome to apply, but please see education experience/requirements for specifics about what disciplines each internship project is seeking.

　　Internships are part-time (15 hours a week) during the school year and full-time (40 hours a week) during the summer.

　　In this role within the Scheduling & Service Planning department’s Service Planning unit, interns will:

　　Research peer agencies, conduct literature reviews, and interview/survey current CTA operators regarding night owl service and the operator selection process.

　　Create a model to understand which types of runs are most likely to be selected by operators.

　　Ability to decipher and make changes to data in order to determine potential service delivery modifications and the factors of prospective alterations within resources of the current workforce.

　　Combine demographic and ridership data into this model as well to understand the social-economic and customer impacts.

　　Compile final reports and present findings to CTA staff.

　　Primary work location for this role: CTA Headquarters (567 W. Lake Street, Chicago Illinois 60661)

　　Qualifications

　　Educational Experience/Requirements:

　　Preferred Major(s): Urban Planning, Architecture, Public Policy, Urban Design, Transportation Planning, Geography, Engineering, Economics, Data Analytics, Logistics or other related discipline with a strong quantitative component.

　　Preferred Level of Education: College graduate student

　　Required enrollment status: Full-time (as defined by your academic institution) in a degree program at an accredited college or university

　　Physical Requirements:

　　The demands associated with the normal office environment

　　Must be able to comply with office policy to work on-site twice per week

　　Light physical activity, including walking outdoors and climbing stairs

　　Field work may be required, which may include riding the CTA system and walking/standing for a few hours at a time during field observations/data collection

　　Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

　　Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills

　　Strong oral and written communication skills

　　Good analytical and critical thinking skills

　　Good organizational skills with attention to detail

　　Good project management skills

　　Experience with SQL

　　Ability to concisely summarize information in presentable materials

　　Understanding of transit planning concepts

　　Experience with Esri's ArcGIS suite

　　Knowledge of data programming languages preferred

　　Additional Details: Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate and may be higher or lower than target.
