Visit www.cdc.gov Responsibilities As a Supervisory Health Scientist, you will: Research, analyze, interpret, and ensure the application of the highest scientific standards in the development of policies, strategies and guidelines related to emergency preparedness and response. Direct and manage the operations of the Branch, providing leadership and guidance to Branch staff. Provide oversight of the design, initiation, coordination, and conduct of complex epidemiologic investigations and research based on state-of-the art scientific practices, to include writing protocols and the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of data. Establish and maintain relationships among a variety of national and international public health, medical, and environmental organizations, other government agencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ: US Citizenship required. Qualifications All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: overseeing the design, initiation, and coordination of epidemiological investigations; advising national and international organizations on public health initiatives; AND providing scientific and administrative support to public health programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
