As the Sr. Absence & Accommodation Consultant, leads the interactive process that may involve work from each of the program lines managed by the department, including leave, disability, medical accommodations, workers’ compensation, return to work, and working with vendors across the program lines. Provides deep expertise pertaining to federal and state laws company policies and collective bargaining agreements’ interaction with practical application in the integrated disability and absence management program. Leads and collaborates with staff, internal partners, and vendors for service delivery. Assists with review of proposed terminations to ensure application of regulatory requirements at a federal, state, and municipal level were applied, or if missing, defines and implements course correction to avoid mistaken terminations. Partners closely with legal, human resources, and employee relations team members.
This position can be remote.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Serves as consultant to managers/supervisors regarding absence, leaves, short- and long-term disability plans, statutory disability and paid family leave plans, workers’ compensation, return to work, and reasonable accommodation.
Creates, establishes and drives standard work, workflow, automation, system configuration, and custom correspondence, to support operational delivery in integrated absence, leave, disability and workers’ compensation management for workforce productivity.
Responsible to lead with a process improvement mindset and constantly looks for ways to automate and create efficiencies while empowering the team to cut non-value-added work.
Defines, develops and approves reports, metrics, and measurements of program delivery and leads continuous improvement activities.
Develops and maintains communications to engage applicable accountability and ownership within the products and with customers, stakeholders, process owners and vendors.
Works with vendors or SaaS systems to create, generate and distribute a variety of standard and customized reports and summaries for the business. Leads or acts as the subject matter expert or Business Lead for the installation and testing of new systems and/or upgrades.
Provides expert knowledge in the field of leave law including Family Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, California Fair Employment and Housing Act, and the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
Requires knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws related to leaves of absence, paid family leave and other paid time off, rules for integration of paid and unpaid benefits and protected time.
Prepares Legal Termination Review content for Legal advisor and Employee Relations for involuntary end of employment.
Works closely with internal and external legal counsel, Employee Relations, People Operations, Analytics and IT, Payroll and Timekeepers, influences and advises Human Resources Leaders, Business Partners and other case or program matters.
Performs and oversees vendors for claim review and stewardship reports/meetings for internal business groups.
Manages vendor budget and relationships.
Performs interactive process with autonomy and guides department team leads and HR on activities to ensure compliance, reduce risk and create a positive experience for employees in the work environment on both a temporary and permanent basis.
Triages work and helps others for seamless daily operations of leave, disability, and accommodation staff to meet service level agreements and compliance timelines.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Bachelor of Business Administration degree plus 5 years of experience in human resources to include performing the interactive process for temporary and long term accommodations and leave management.; OR High school diploma or state-issued equivalency certificate plus 9 years of experience in human resources to include performing the interactive process for temporary and long term accommodations and leave management.
2 years of experience conducting and managing leave of absence, return to work, the accommodation interactive process, short- and long-term disability management, and workers’ compensation claim and case management support.
Experience with HRIS and Payroll systems (i.e., ADP, PeopleSoft, etc.)
Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
WHAT WILL SET YOU APART:
Bachelor of Business Administration degree plus 5 years of a combination of experience in human resources, project management, or compliance functions, reflecting increasing levels of responsibility directly performing work and supporting leave of absence, return to work, the interactive process for accommodations, and workers’ compensation claim and case management support.
MBA
Certification, such as CPDM, CLMS, or SPHR.
Experience with systems implementations that support employees across the organization.
Compensation
Hiring Salary Range Posted: $98,100 -$147,000
Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
