About this role
Dow Global Purchasing has an exciting opportunity for aSourcing Specialistin its Strategic Sourcing Center, located inMidland, MI.Dow's Global Purchasing carries out its mission to deliver substantial, sustainable competitive advantage by putting the right people, processes and tools in place to make the best possible sourcing decisions for Dow. The organization deliberately focuses on: Productivity, Process Improvement, and Culture and Compliance to maximize value creation. Purchasing is positioned to make significant contributions to the bottom line, and increase value for Dow businesses, and Joint Ventures (JV). Establishing close relationships with Dow businesses, partners and suppliers enables us to deliver value beyond cost - and ultimately, ensure delivery of products and services that result in customer success.
You will support Labor and Services Purchasing within the Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Capital sourcing team, which manages the sourcing needs for Dow businesses and functions via category teams and on a project basis. This role will be a part of the site aligned Labor and Services Purchasing team that supports the North America North region including Dow manufacturing sites in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, and California. You will create value by (1) providing appropriate input into the development and implementation of sourcing strategies and commercial agreements and (2) negotiating assigned specific labor or services purchases for execution as purchase orders. You are a team member responsible for various sourcing activities pertaining to running the business and contract management, as well providing support for the Sourcing Manager in implementing and executing strategy and agreements. You will also support all clients in the business and functions that these category areas support.
Responsibilities
Lead or assist the execution of Sourcing Projects using the Strategic Sourcing Process.
Implement commercial agreements and associated work processes for services as delegated by the Sourcing Manager.
Identify Value Recovery opportunities for B&C item spending and define/implement associated projects.
Maintain basic knowledge of suppliers and relevant market developments such as mergers and acquisitions, financial status and changes in key personnel. Communicate where applicable to the Supplier Management Action Teams (SMATs).
Utilize available Sourcing tools (e.g. e-RFI, e-RFQ, e-Auctions) to the fullest capability, to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Purchasing process.
Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, and effectively manage quality, service, product, and performance issues with suppliers.
Execute contractual obligations within the delegated scope of responsibility and legal authority.
Focus on value delivery and sustainable competitive advantage for the business partner.
Challenge inefficiencies, process deviations, and strategy deviations.
Qualifications
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience.
A minimum requirement for this US-based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Skills
A degree discipline in Supply Chain, Engineering, or Business.
Multiple years of experience using SAP.
Working knowledge of purchasing fundamentals and procurement work processes and policies.
Effective negotiator and able to persuade others (internal and external clients) through effective communication skills.
Financial and market analysis skills, and effectively manipulate and analyze data.
Strong data analysis skills to effectively identify value opportunities.
Proficiency with applicable Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
The ability to work across cultures and geographies.
Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.
A self-starter who can identify, work independently, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
Comfortable working directly with suppliers.
Exhibition of strong work ethic and responsiveness to earn respect of business partners.
