Job Summary:
Provide oversight for various accounting functions, including, but not limited to, bonds and debt accounting. Responsible for the accounting of assigned Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements. Prepare various financial reports for the University. Provide accurate and timely general ledger account reconciliations and prepare any necessary journal entries. Serve as the University's primary information resource to internal departments regarding general accounting and fund accounting questions.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Responsible for the accounting related to bond and debt activity, including journal entry preparation, bond draws and reporting.Responsible for accounting related to assigned GASB pronouncements.Act as the department's first point of contact to other departments within the University on matters related to accounting.Review, approve and process entries submitted to General Accounting by departments within the University. Consistently apply GAAP principles and University policy.Assist with year end audit workpaper and financial statement preparation.Review and approve requests from student organizations for fund set up and entries for funding. Work with Student Activities and Leadership and Student Life to resolve any issues. Coordinate the data updates from the general ledger to The Hub for all financial activity related to student organizations.Responsible for monthly reconciliations, including, but not limited to, subscription-based software agreements, inventory, freight, and travel and expense module.Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Accounting or Chief Accounting Officer.
Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires 5 or more years of experience as a Staff Accountant, Auditor or Accounting Supervisor/Manager and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance and or general business.
Desired Qualifications:
CPA or Master's degree are strongly preferred. Experience with fund accounting in a university or similar environment.Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.Experience with Banner Finance, Workday, or other ERP software preferred.Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires a strong proficiency with PC-based software including an advanced proficiency with Excel and experience with other analytical tools.Excellent communication, analytical, time management and organizational skills are required.
