The position is classified as a Senior Lecturer. This is an annual, renewable position which is full-time, non-tenure track, nine-month appointment starting August 26, 2024. If mutually agreed, a stipend may be available for summer 2024 to help transition to MBT Director. Job responsibilities include teaching, advising, and mentoring students within the accounting department across courses in the undergraduate and MBT programs. Teaching responsibility includes the signature course of the MBT program: Research, Communication and Practice. This is a four-credit, writing-intensive course that teaches IRS Practice and Procedure along with tax research and communication. In addition, the candidate would be expected to teach a mixture of other courses in the MBT program, undergraduate tax courses and/or other accounting department courses as may be mutually agreed upon. Other responsibilities include helping to recruit and retain students for the MBT program. Active involvement and visibility with the tax community is expected. The Director also serves as the academic advisor for all students in the program. The position includes mentoring, advising, educating, and exciting students about careers in accounting generally and taxation specifically. The Director needs to hire, retain, and maintain relationships with the large number of adjunct faculty that teach in the MBT program. Oversight of all MBT courses, including those taught by other full-time faculty members, is expected. This includes course scheduling along with continuous review and development of the MBT curriculum. Other duties include chairing the MBT Scholarship and TA Committee, meeting with the MBT Advisory Board and serving on other department committees as may be requested in the role of a faculty member. The MBT Program is ranked among the top graduate tax programs in the country. It is an online program with an asynchronous model. The student body is national, although the majority of students live in Minnesota. Active partnership with the business community is a key to our success. An ideal candidate should hold a graduate tax degree (in accounting or law) and have practical experience working in the field of taxation with a large organization. In addition, relevant teaching experience in a university setting in taxation would be highly valued. A desire to build and support industry connections is essential. The minimum qualifications for this position are a CPA or law license, a graduate tax degree, plus 15 years of related industry and/or academic experience. This position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card Sponsorship.
