  Job ID359405 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R2 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job A position for computer scientist is available in the laboratory of Dr. Alon Herschhorn at the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Medicine, Department of Medicine, University of Minnesota. We are a well-funded, energetic research group that works on exciting directions to understand and target HIV-1 host interactions at the molecular and cellular levels. We use interdisciplinary approaches at the interface of synthetic and molecular virology, immunology and cell biology to gain new insights into complex biological processes, with the aim of translating these insights into novel therapies and vaccines to treat and prevent viral infections. Duties 55% Primary duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, applying machine learning and AI applications to analyze a new database and develop computational tools of HIV-1 resistance to antibody inhibition (HIResist; https://hiresist.umn.edu/), constructing a new interface to align sequences, annotate and transfer between different platforms. Additional duties: 5% Analyze inhibition data in current databases 10% Develop new methods for using databases to form scientific hypotheses 10% Participate in lab meeting, arrange data, prepare manuscripts for publications 10% Translate computational concepts to simple and clear outlines 10% Develop new user-friendly graphical interfaces to analyze data Qualifications Required Qualifications: -BS/BA and 1 year of related experience or combination of education and work experience to equal 5 years. Preferred Qualifications: -Higher degree in computer science or equivalent work experience - A computer scientist proficient in programming in Python, C++/C, or any equivalent computer language . - Experience in machine learning methods and AI applications - Experience in building online scientific databases and working with online interfaces - Experience with statistical tools and programs - Ability to carry out computational projects, work with IT teams, learn new protocols and complete required projects - Creative thinking, ability to build graphical user interfaces - Experience with supercomputers access, data storage and manipulation - Proficiency in bioinformatic tools and experience with big data analysis -Experience working individually and on group projects Benefits Working at the University At the University of Minnesota, you'll find a flexible work environment and supportive colleagues who are interested in lifelong learning.
