The Azure SQL team in Azure Data at Microsoft is responsible for Azure SQL DB, SQL MI, SQL VM (IaaS) cloud services, SQL Server on-prem and Arc enabled SQL Server. Together they power many of the world's mission critical databases and are deployed by most of the Fortune 1000 companies.
One of the key services in Azure SQL is the ability for customers to run SQL Server in Azure Virtual Machines (aka IaaS). This is a highly popular Azure service with enterprise customers which leverages not only the latest advances in Azure storage and compute infrastructure but is also integrated with other Azure services like Azure Update Manager.
We are looking for a Principal Group Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team for this service which is one of the largest businesses in Azure Data. A key responsibility is to provide technical guidance and vision to the team as we continue to grow this service and make Azure the undisputed and premier way to run SQL Server on cloud infrastructure. The position requires the ability to partner closely with many other teams in Azure like storage and compute and also other teams in Azure Data including the product management team.

Responsibilities
Leads and develops a team of 25+ engineers and engineering managers to deliver high business impact projects on-time with quality.
Provides technical insight on the following: architecture, design, code reviews, development, quality assurance and live site management.
Provide clarity in scope of work and define accountabilities between teams.
Embraces the values of Microsoft through coaching and collaboration.
Partnering with peer teams working in similar areas
Qualifications
*Required Qualifications: *
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience as an engineering manager
5+ years of experience designing, building and shipping large scale cloud services.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Prior deep experience in cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS or GCP) particularly storage and compute is highly desirable

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
