This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: To learn more: https://home.army.mil/mccoy/index.php/my-fort/newcomers Responsibilities Perform a broad range of law enforcement, investigation, crime prevention, traffic control, and community policing. Respond to and investigate offences against persons and property. Respond to volatile situations such as terrorist attacks, hostage situations, and armed robbery. Question and apprehend suspects utilizing the appropriate level of authorized force. Investigate traffic accidents to include the collection of technical data and interview subjects with knowledge of the accident or incident. Conduct traffic and security patrols to enforce federal, state, Department of Defense, Department of the Army and local regulations. Serve as desk sergeant performing operational and administrative duties. Write incident and activity reports. Direct, escort, and protect VIPs and visitors. Provide installation access control. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications POSITION IS ANNOUNCED AS A STANDING REGISTER (OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT): First cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be January 30, 2024 at 11:59 PM. Application packages must be complete at the time referral certificates are issued. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work utilizing basic laws and regulations to maintain order and protect life and property; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; controlling access to restricted areas by verifying credentials; responding to calls for assistance; coordinating with law enforcement and emergency service agencies to render aid; escorting individuals or vehicles; directing traffic; or conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work utilizing laws and regulations to maintain order and protect life and property; responding to calls for police assistance and emergency situations; coordinating with other law enforcement agencies and emergency services to render aid; arresting and mirandizing suspects; preserving evidence at crime scenes; conducting investigations of crimes and suspected criminal activities; conducting vehicle or foot patrols; writing accident reports; conducting field drug and alcohol testing of suspected offenders; operating radar speed detection devices; or conducting personal or vehicle searches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a Security & Intelligence Career Field position. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. If selected for a developmental grade level, this recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition (non-competitive promotion potential). This position may offer a recruitment bonus to individuals who are newly appointed as civilians in the Federal Government. You are considered newly appointed if this is your first appointment as a civilian employee in the Federal Government or if you have a minimum of a 90-day break in service from a previous Federal civilian position. You may qualify with a break in service of less than 90 days only if your previous Federal civilian appointment was a time-limited or non-permanent appointment. You will be required to sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty. This position may offer a relocation incentive to applicants if they are a current Federal government employee who is relocating from more than 50 miles from Fort McCoy. You will be required to sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty. This position may offer the Student Loan Repayment program (SLRP). Participants must sign a service agreement prior to your entry on duty and maintain an acceptable level of performance to remain eligible for this program. Salary negotiations for candidates new to Federal service may be authorized. Credit for prior non-Federal experience and certain military service for leave accrual rates MAY be authorized but must be established prior to entry on duty.
