Position Summary
The Physician Assistant will assist the Orthopedic Surgeon's practice in full capacity which includes clinical, administrative and direct patient care in both the office and hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Take, record and document patient history/encounterConfer w/ physicians about patient findings and potential diagnosis w/ established course of treatment; formulate and update patient care plansReview lab results, x-rays and MRI/CT results and communicate to physician and patientProvide diagnosis and treatment services to established and postoperative patientsRounding with or on behalf of the physician Administer therapeutic injections and perform minor procedures as neededWork closely and collaboratively with the team (office coordinator, nurse, resident, fellow) to provide high quality patient care; coordinate appointment and surgical scheduling templates w/ teamPerform patient education duties (i.e. show surgical videos, provide brochures, direct patients to additional resources) and review pre-operative instructions to explain surgical process to surgical patientsEnsure all necessary office notes, lab results and films are presented for residents and attending's review prior to surgeryTriage telephone calls; Return patient phone messages at designated times throughout the day; document action taken in patient chartTelephone prescription requests to pharmacy; document action in patient chart and obtain physician signature of approvalOversee appointment bookings with appointment scheduling team and ensure emergency situations are scheduled appropriately; maintain timely flow of patientsFirst Assist in operating room for surgeon in the hospital and ambulatory surgery center including performing safety checks during patient positioning, mastering positioning, retractor placement, and facilitating surgical flowFilm and edit surgical videos for teaching, talks, and resident educationWork in collaboration with the Pediatric teamSuccessfully complete system training requirements including EHR/ EPICOther related duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five years of related experience; Master's preferred.Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program from a recognized college or University.Current New York Physician Assistant licenseBLS and ACLS certification requiredPreferred Qualifications
Experience relevant to the area of clinical practice preferredExperience in Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgery a plusSpanish speaking strongly preferred
