Job Overview
The Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in the managementand coordination of the patient safety program. The Patient Safety Specialistwill work with Patient Safety leadership, operational and medical leadershipin analyzing the human, organizational, and system factors contributing toadverse events and work with them to identify and implement risk reductionstrategies that promote patient safety.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or healthcare related field required.Experience: Three (3) years of progressive experience in patientsafety, human factors, error management, and/orcultural/organizational change. Equivalency: Master's degree inHealthcare or Patient Safety can substitute for two (2) years of requiredexperCertification(s): None Licensure(s): Registered Nurse (RN)licensure required for BSN.This position may require a BLS certification from the American HeartAssociation. Responsibilities
POPULATION SPECIFIC CARENo direct patient care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of thefollowing essential functions. These examples do not include all of thefunctions which the employee may be expected to perform.1. Assists Patient Safety leadership in the management and coordination of thepatient safety program.2. Facilitate safety improvement initiatives as identified by patient safetyleadership; trends in event reported data, issues identified in eventreviews, as well as other internal and external priorities.3. Facilitates cause analysis for serious safety events and other safetyevents as identified.4. Facilitates risk assessment to proactively identify and mitigate risks topatient safety.5. Serves as an internal consulting liaison and resource for patient safetyimprovement initiatives.6. Assists in the development and implementation of methods to improve patientsafety practices.7. Assists in supporting and collaborating with the Accreditation Departmentto assure that expectations for continuous standards compliance are met.8. Maintains knowledge of JCAHO, National Patient Safety Goals, and otherregulatory and non-regulatory standards.9.
