Job Duties Crops/Commodities: apples, pears, cherries, wine grapes.Primary tasks of a van driver will be the operation of general-purposevehicles to transport workers, equipment, and products from one locationor facility to another. Workers will be instructed in safety andoperation of the vehicles/equipment before driving/operation. Vehiclesmust be driven in a manner to protect operators, other workers,products, trees, crops, and equipment. Van drivers must have a validWashington State Driver\'s License. Van drivers must complete ourAuthorized Driver process including Fleet Safety Training and have asafe driving record by meeting vehicle record grading criteria. Vandrivers must release permission to obtain their Washington State (MVR)Motor Vehicle Record. Van drivers must not have any Major Violationsthat include: Excessive Speeding 15 mph or more over the posted speedlimit. Any DUI, DWI, BAC, Controlled Substance, or open containerconvictions in the last 5-years. Failure to stop/report an accident.Racing or Exhibition driving. Careless/Reckless/Imprudent driving.
Making a false accident report. Vehicular homicide, manslaughter orassault resulting from a vehicle related incident. Attempting to elude apolice officer. Any suspension or revocation in the last 3 years. 3 ormore moving violations in the last 3-years 2 or more moving violationsin the last year Van driver\'s will be required to pass a MigrantSeasonal Protection Standard (MSPA) certification in order to operatevehicles and to transport migrant workers. Van drivers must be able tocomplete a vehicle inspection daily to check the condition of avehicle\'s tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water,and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order. Testvehicle equipment, such as lights, brakes, horns, or windshield wipers,to ensure proper operation. Van drivers must be able to complete orassist with the completion of accident reports when necessary. Vandrivers must comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in asafe and courteous manner.
Van drivers must follow relevant safety regulations and state lawsgoverning vehicle operation, and ensure that passengers follow safetyregulations. Van drivers must be able to perform routine vehiclemaintenance, such as regulating tire pressure and adding gasoline, oil,and water. Van drivers must be able to pick up and drop off workers atregularly scheduled worksite locations, following strict time schedules,and be able to assist with transportation to appointments as requested.Van drivers must maintain their vehicles clean by vacuuming and cleaninginteriors, and wash and polish exteriors of vehicles as requested bycamp managers. Van drivers must be willing to work extended hours,weekends, and holidays as needed to transport workers daily. Van driversmust be fluent in Spanish and be able to communicate verbally withpassengers as they are transported to and from work locations. Repeatedfailure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions as listedabove may result in termination. Primary tasks will be thinning,planting, training and trellising trees, summer pruning and harvestingof apples, pears, cherries and wine grapes. Workers will install, deployand remove shade cloth; install, maintain and operate irrigation system.Ability to pick up, use and safely handle a 12 foot orchard ladderweighing approximately 40 lbs. is necessary for performance of generalorchard duties. Qualified workers (workers who possess at least oneseason of previous experience performing the following duties) may b offered tasks including, but not limited to, the operation of vehiclesto transport equipment and product from one field location or facilityto another and the operation of tractors, planters, sprayers,cultivators, cherry dryers, vehicles and/or forklifts. Workers will beinstructed in safety and operation of the vehicles/equipment beforedriving/operation. Vehicles, tractors, forklifts should be driven in amanner to protect operator, other workers, products, trees, crops andequipment. Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operatinginstructions may result in termination. Under supervision of certifiedpesticide applicator, may mix and apply pesticides, herbicides,fungicides and/or fertilizer.
Planting - Workers will prepare fields for planting by clearing cullstock, brush and debris; dig holes, plant seedlings or liners\' by hand(including riding on the planting machine, reaching and grabbing a treeand dropping it in the hole and inserting liners in a mechanicalplanter); shovel dirt around newly-planted trees. Thinning - Thinning isa manual process used to control the size and fruit quality of grownfruit. Employees will be given appropriate training by supervisors.Ability to pick up, use and safely handle a 12 foot orchard ladderweighing approximately 40 lbs. is necessary for performance of thinningtasks.
