What’s the role?

　　We are looking for passionate and energetic news leader who wants to take their career to the next level.

　　Our reporters are embedded in the communities they serve and need an engaged manager to provide mentoring and coaching. The National Community Network, which includes the Geelong Advertiser, has the fastest growing audience inside News Corp Australia and we are looking for a News Director to help build on our current strengths. If you have a strong news sense, with good editing skills, an understanding of digital reporting excellence, and are an adaptable mentor we’d love to hear from you.

　　About the role:

　　Fixed-term opportunity: 12-month contract covering maternity leave.

　　Work closely with the Editor and Head of Content in the editorial leadership team to source and deliver compelling news content for the Geelong Advertiser in print and online

　　Set the agenda of the region

　　Use of analytics to identify trends, topics, news stories, ideas and innovations

　　Understand and continue to stress the importance of community news within the media landscape

　　Increase social following and engagement, UAs and brand awareness

　　Develop strategies to ensure that digital journalism continues to lead and drive subscription growth

　　Commercially minded, you will assist the leadership team in making important business decisions that will shape the way the Geelong Advertiser grows and shifts

　　Use your editorial skill sets to ensure a high quality of content is pushed out across all platforms and publications

　　Who are you?

　　Ideal candidate will come from a news editorial background

　　Strong understanding of what is a great yarn

　　Strong understanding of SEO, social media and what it takes to run a news website

　　Strong organisational skills in a fast paced environment

　　Strong people management skills and interpersonal skill set
