  Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or comparable disciplines to support research activities in the Advanced Technologies of Molten Salts department.

  The Department is interested a candidate for a role related to pyrochemistry and molten salt synthesis, characterization, and measurement. The role focuses on the study of Uranium Chloride salt synthesis and characterization to support molten salt reactor programs, involves molten salt material corrosion phenomena, and will investigate electrochemistry and spectroscopy of molten salts.

  You are expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work effectively both alone and as a team member. You must be self-motivated but also take direction from other team members and peers. The position entails writing scientific manuscripts for journal publications, and presentation of research results at national and international conferences and meetings.

  • Ph.D. requirements must be completed by the commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years. • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Material Science & Engineering or a comparable discipline • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills.

  Familiarity in one or more of the following areas is desired:• Hands-on experience with high temperature molten salt and/or metallurgical experiment systems• Hands-on experience with inert-atmosphere gloveboxes• Electrochemistry or pyrochemistry• Fuel cycle safeguards techniques• Familiarity with UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopic techniques• Familiarity with work in Radiological Facilities• Familiarity with multi-physics modeling and finite element analysis tools (e.g., COMSOL, STAR-CCM , Fluent) which could be applied to modeling of high temperature chemical processes
