About Medical Economics (Cost Savings) Intern – 2024 Summer Internship

  Healthfirst’s 2024 Summer Trailblazer Internship is a 10-week paid program beginning on June 5, 2024. This is an immersive and interactive learning experience, that lays a foundation for continued leadership development. Interns do impactful work, collaborating with other interns, employees, and business leaders to solve current business problems and deliver solutions.

  Position Summary :

  The Medical Economics Intern will support the Medical Cost team in valuing, implementing, and tracking initiatives aimed at producing savings and bending trends. As an Intern, you’ll interact with subject matter experts across finance, network, product, medical management, and other areas of the organization to provide support in various tasks related to achieving business objectives. Potential areas of analysis include payment policy, utilization management, and value-based payment arrangements. Throughout your internship, you’ll explore new and unique questions, learning and growing as you develop strategies, find solutions, and build innovative new approaches that support our goals and drive success.

  Duties & Responsibilities :

  Explore medical cost initiative portfolio and enhance reporting and tracking through the development of new dashboards and visualizations

  Learn how to identify favorable and unfavorable performance trends within medical cost initiatives and develop recommendations to improve performance

  Analyze data from multiple tables in the data warehouse using SQL, Excel and Tableau

  Collaborate with other interns and team members to share innovative new ideas

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Degree in Math, Computer Science, Business, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics or related programs

  Knowledge of SQL based applications.

  Work experience with Microsoft Excel - create pivot tables, formatting, sorting, create spreadsheets with complex formulas such as v-look ups.

  Current or previous work experience querying large amounts of data.

  Experience managing projects and documenting procedures.

  Understanding of Medicaid and Medicare programs.

  Experience with PowerPoint or Tableau.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Undergraduate students must be a junior or senior at an accredited institution or have graduated within 12 months of the program. Graduate students must be enrolled at an accredited institution or have graduated within 12 months of the program.

  Knowledge of healthcare data such as diagnosis codes & procedure codes.

  Will not require sponsorship for employment

  Eligible to work in the U.S.

  Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA from an accredited school

  Hiring Range*:

  Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT residents): $39,208 - $52,000

  All Other Locations (within approved locations): $34,091 - $49,920

  As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, licenses and certifications, and any other factors Healthfirst deems pertinent to the hiring decision.

  In addition to your salary, Healthfirst offers employees a full range of benefits such as, medical, dental and vision coverage, incentive and recognition programs, life insurance, and 401k contributions (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Healthfirst believes in providing a competitive compensation and benefits package wherever its employees work and live.

  *The hiring range is defined as the lowest and highest salaries that Healthfirst in “good faith” would pay to a new hire, or for a job promotion, or transfer into this role.
