Primary Focus
The Mechanical Engineering Technician will support the general experimental research activities of the High Energy Cosmic Radiations Program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Programs include, but are not limited to, the TIGERISS (Trans-Iron Galactic Element Recorder for the ISS) and the GRAMS (Gamma Ray and Antimatter Survey) program that is funded by NASA for a prototype balloon flight. All duties and responsibilities performed in accordance with the Core Values of Cayuse.
Job Responsibilities
Assist in developing mechanical systems for the NASA ballon missions.
Mechanical fixturing for laboratory and accelerator use.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be familiar with the mechanical techniques employed in the HECR group and especially those techniques used in the SuperTIGER balloon instrument and payload.
The technician must be an expert in the fabrication of the thin windows used in the SuperTIGER instrument.
The technician must be capable of considerable physical effort and must be potentially able to physically qualify (PQ) for Antarctic travel.
Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
Minimum Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with all levels throughout Company organization.
Shall have the requisite skills, expertise, and experience to perform the requirements of each task. Must be extremely detail-oriented and well organized.
Must have basic skills using Microsoft and Google Suite Products (Word, Excel, Power Point) and be able to learn new software as the situation dictates.

Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties while standing for extended periods of time.
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
The technician must be capable of considerable physical effort and must be potentially able to physically qualify (PQ) for Antarctic travel.
Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
