BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring a Medical Oncology Veterinary Technician at our Brooklyn, NY location.

　　This position is eligible for qualified candidates to receive up to a $10.000 sign-on bonus.

　　Schedule is Monday -Thursday 8a-6p.

　　Pay: $26.50 - $51.00 / hour

　　This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience**

　　We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

　　*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

　　For example:

　　Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 Shift Differential

　　Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $6.00 Shift Differential

　　Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.50 Shift Differential

　　A BluePearl Oncology Technician is someone who is self-motivated, a quick thinker, and able to multi-task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are a must. A minimum of two or more years of experience in a specialty veterinary hospital and experience with administering chemotherapy agents is preferred. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients as well as supporting the clinician with patient care and client communication.

　　As an Oncology Technician, you will:

　　Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.

　　Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.

　　Perform phlebotomy.

　　Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.

　　Proficient in medical math.

　　Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.

　　Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.

　　Safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.

　　Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.

　　Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.

　　Have the knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.

　　Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough patient histories, including current medications and dosages, response to treatment, side effects, intensity, and duration.

　　Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as how to handle patient eliminations after chemotherapy, how to handle oral chemotherapy at home, chemotherapy, and radiation side effects, and oral medication administration.

　　Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and can communicate with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.

　　Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization while maintaining a bedside manner is a must. Quickly and competently facilitates incoming calls.

　　Have knowledge of the tumor types.

　　Understand diagnostic workup protocols (including oncology-specific terminology for each tumor/cancer type per each hospital’s protocol.

　　Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.

　　Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.

　　Maintain hospital for day-to-day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).

　　Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500.00/year reimbursement for CVT and $750.00/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500.00 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150.00. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
