LW I Assists in laundry activities involving manual or machine operation tasks under the direction of a supervisor at the NH Veterans Home.
LW II Performs routine work under the direction of a supervisor in the conduct of laundry activities at the NH Veterans Home.
LW III Washes, dries, folds and delivers laundry, linen and clothing for NHVH residents while providing partial supervision to other Laundry Workers performing similar duties.
Responsibilities:LW I Marks, counts and sorts incoming and outgoing laundry. Operates washers and dryers. Folds and bags laundry and delivers laundry to assigned destinations. Performs routine cleaning of the laundry room area. Lifts 45 - 50 pound laundry bags repeatedly, lifts and carries loaded laundry baskets and pushes/pulls carts.
LW II Performs repetitive, routine duties such as marking, counting and sorting incoming and outgoing laundry including operating washers and dryers. Folds linens and clothing. Uses some independent judgment and resourcefulness in performing routine duties in the operation of the laundry machines and reporting to the laundry foreman and manager. Interacts and communicates appropriately with other staff in regards to resident clothing, linens and general laundry items. Lifts 45 - 50 pound laundry bags repeatedly, lifts and carries loaded laundry baskets and pushes/pulls carts. Performs routine cleaning routine of the laundry room area.
LW III Uses independent judgement and resourcefulness while performing duties of the laundry department and reporting to the laundry foreman and manager. Provides partial supervision over other employees doing related work to ensure proper procedures and techniques are being followed. Trains new and temporary employees on routine duties such as marking, counting and sorting incoming / outgoing laundry and how to operate laundry machinery. Operates a variety of laundry machinery such as washers, dryers, ironers, and folders. Lifts 45 - 50 pound laundry bags repeatedly, lifts and carries loaded laundry baskets and pushes/pulls carts, often in an element of high temperature. Separates soiled linen and clothing. Makes arrangements with residents unit for return of items found while sorting laundry. Responsible for accurately counting, marking, sorting bagging and delivering clean linen and clothing to applicable unit, staff or residents. Performs routine cleaning of the laundry area.

Qualifications: LW IEducation: Completion of eighth grade or its equivalent.Experience: No experience required.License/Certification: None required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in environment of high temperature and humidity with exposure to minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns and slipping on wet floors.Must be available to work weekends and holidays and a flexible schedule as needed.Laundry Worker I employees may be promoted to the Laundry Worker II level based on the following requirements: a) Completion of a minimum of six (6) months in the position. b) A successful performance evaluation. c) The recommendation of the supervisor.

LW IIEducation: Completion of eighth grade or its equivalent.Experience: Six months' experience in a commercial or institutional laundry.License/Certification: None required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work in environment of high temperature and humidity with exposure to minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns and slipping on wet floors.Must be available to work weekends and holidays and a flexible schedule as needed.Laundry Worker II employees may be promoted to the Laundry Worker III level based on the following requirements: a) Completion of a minimum of one (1) year in the position. b) A successful performance evaluation. c) The recommendation of the supervisor.

Knowledge of laundry routine and methods. Knowledge of textiles and colored materials and their reaction to soap, bleaches, water temperature and machine washing.Ability to understand and follow instructions.Ability to work while standing and under conditions of high temperature and humidity.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
