Position Summary
With little or no supervision, this position performs repairs andmaintenance at a semi-skilled level routine maintenance, field layout,irrigation system maintenance.
Essential Functions
In addition to following the University of Denver's policies andprocedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Performs preventive maintenance on irrigation/sprinkler systems; checkssystems for proper operation. Troubleshoots existing problems and assists incomplex remedies.Provides technical expertise and manual labor for installation of newirrigation systems or expansion of existing systems.Maintenance activities and repairs on existing irrigation/sprinkler systems.Assists with the installation of new irrigation systems and expansion ofexisting systems.Assists with the installation of time clocks that operate irrigationsystems.Assist in the requisitioning supplies and parts of irrigation systemmaintenance; makes periodic inventory of supplies and notifies supervisor ofneeded materials.Maintains related records and drawings of irrigation systems in place on theproperty and keeps them updated regularly.Picks up, collects, removes litter and debris from all ground areas.Picks up material ordered by Physical Plant when not delivered by commoncarrier.Removes snow by power equipment or shovel from parking lots, sidewalks,exterior stairs, ramps, and terraces.Waters lawn and planted areas by hand or sprinkler systems.Performs minor repairs, lubricates and sharpens equipment. Reports complexrepair needs to supervisor.Drives to sites with tools and equipment.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to read and interpret documents such as material safety datasheets, operating manuals, and work orders. Ability to communicateeffectively with Physical Plant customers (students, staff, faculty andvisitor
Basic math skills required when measuring and performing take offs formiscellaneous jobs.Ability to follow procedures and use commonsense to carry out assignmentsfurnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problemsinvolving several variables in a variety of situations.Basic computer skills. Knowledgeable working with Microsoft Office programssuch as Word, Excel, and Outlook.Familiar working with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)software, including WebTMA.Required Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required.
One year experience in grounds and/or irrigation.Valid Colorado Driver's License and insurable by the University ofDenver's insurance carrier.Pass a pre-employment physical exam and lift 100 lbs.Preferred Qualifications

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inoutside weather conditions.
The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequentlyexposed to fumes or airborne particles.The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and isoccasionally exposed to wet and /or humid conditions, toxic and causticchemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.Physical Activities
Moderate to strenuous physical effort required.
Worker must be able to withstand long periods of time bending, couching,sitting, standing, reaching and repetitive motions with the hand-wrist andelbow-shoulder.This position requ res the operation of semi-heavy machinery includingmowers, chain saws, weed-eaters, and other power-driven equipment.Duties also include working with pole saws and from ladders and scaffolds ashigh as 40 feet.The employee must be able to work outside in all types of weather andlift, move and carry objects in excess of 100 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability toadjust focus.Work ScheduleThe University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Work schedule may vary.
