Job Description:
Summary:The person in this position will be part of an innovative geotechnicalengineering team of over 80 geotechnical engineers and field geologists.Barr's geotechnical engineering team provides a wide array of servicesrelated to foundations, dams, embankments, landslides, soil-structureinteraction, earth-retaining structures, excavations, and undergroundstructures. Key Responsibilities may include:
Managing geotechnical projects from concept to construction
Maintaining and developing client relationships
Providing support through training/mentorship for geotechnical engineers
Preparing proposals and cost estimates for geotechnical investigations
Coordinating field and laboratory testing
Interpreting and analyzing geotechnical data to establish engineeringproperties of materials and foundation recommendations
Completing geotechnical engineering analyses including seepage, slopestability, bearing capacity, settlement, and rotational stiffness
Preparing reports
Assist in supporting the growth of the dam practice area
Traveling for periodic out-of-town assignments
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
10 years of relevant work experience
Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtaincertification within one year
Broad knowledge of and experience with civil engineering and design codes,standards, guidelines, and best practices to complete complex damevaluation, design, and construction projects
Facilitation experience with PFMAs/failure modes and effects analyses (FMEAs)
Experience performing probability and consequence analysis for qualitativerisk assessments
Demonstrated understanding of the consulting profession, includingflexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meetproject deadlines and/or client needs
Willingness to travel to support project needs
Computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet creation
Strong oral and written communication skills
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need forsponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in civil or geotechnical engineering with additionalcoursework or research related to geotechnical or dam engineering
15+ years of analysis and design experience, including inspecting concreteand earthen dams and/or levees, especially related to dam repair andrehabilitation
Experience with established dam safety programs including Federal EnergyRegulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12 dam safety program requirements(engineering guidelines, supporting technical information documents(STIDs), probable maximum precipitation (PMP)/probable maximumflood (PMF), emergency action plans (EAPs), potential failuremodes analyses (PFMAs), dam safety surveillance monitoring plans(DSSMPs), Owner's Dam Safety Program (ODSP), risk-informeddecision making (RIDM), etc.) or similar dams safety programs for theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management, Federal EmergencyMana
Prior approval as an independent consultant to complete FERC Part 12 damsafety inspections
Interest in and ability to perform project execution and management,business development, and staff mentoring
Facilitation experience with qualitative and quantitative dam risk assessments
Computer skills and work experience in statistical analysis software or riskanalysis software (@Risk or similar)
