About Engineering Technician III - X-ray Fluorescence

Summary

Conducts tests, sets up and operates equipment, experiments, gathers data, builds prototypes units and testing equipment. Maintains and calibrates standards and equipment; and devises new testing methods. Drafts procedures and records laboratory notes and other pertinent details. Provides technical direction and training to other technologists. Works in accordance with general objectives, improving and refining devices and methods, as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

Designs and/or develops new products/processes, special instruments, and unique equipment to meet specific requirements of customer orders.

Develops and assesses production or inspection operations and sequences, equipment , tooling gages, or acceptance equipment and processing methods required to manufacture or inspect complex components and assemblies.

Translates design concepts into production items by coordinating the activities of engineering, quality, manufacturing, and related organizations.

Estimates set-up times, operating times, and flowtimes, as well as production and acceptance needs.

Participates in establishing operating procedures on new products and components.

Compiles cost estimates and delivery quotations, monitors performance, and prepares reports, statistics, and recommendations for management review.

Plans and performs engineering testing and development programs and uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve engineering and production problems and to assure product manufacturability.

Analyzes processes, products, and inspection records to anticipate, identify, and correct problems and to establish quality levels and trends.

Refines product definitions, based on knowledge of manufacturing capability, to assure that released designs can be produced.

Determines acceptability of products and materials in conjunction with customer and other affected organizations.

Interacts with customer and suppliers to assist in resolving design, development, production, and acceptance issues.

Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, makes recommendations for and initiates the most cost effective improvements for product, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime.

Provides project leadership and technical guidance on complex engineering projects.

May perform other duties as required.

Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established ESH requirements to ensure the protection of associates, the public, and the environment. Takes actions necessary to ""stop"" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Every associate has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.

You Must Have

Four years relevant experience OR two plus years experience in a related technical role plus 2 year technical degree, OR four year technical degree.

Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business.

Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business.

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.

United States Citizenship.

Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations).

Position consists substantially of following rote and/or repetitive procedures, so candidate must be comfortable with this.

Proficiency in MS Office products and plant-based Portal web applications.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with customers.

Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and responsibilities.

Ability to work under minimal supervision with latitude for independent action and decision making.

Significant experience in composite, to include but not limited to Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass, Carbon Phenolic, etc. layup, processing molds, designs, and manufacturing.

Demonstrated application of advanced design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to complex engineering projects

Demonstrated working under minimal supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision making.

Skilled in Solidworks or Creo.

Machining, assembly, and part manufacturing experience.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment to be able to influence and team with others to accomplish complex tasks and solve complex technical problems.
