Summary This position is in the Ground Controls Branch of the Engineering Directorate. You will oversee all aspects of design and operations for hardware and software, focusing on subsystems linked to Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE); manage and lead operations, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications, design, installation, and verification/validation testing; demonstrate advanced communication skills and seamless integration support across diverse projects and organizations. Responsibilities Offer expert guidance for planning, designing, integrating, operating, and managing Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) systems. Address safety, costs, and scheduling concerns, providing authoritative solutions for critical challenges. Lead design and operations of Ground Control Branch systems, overseeing electrical hardware and software for enterprise-wide industrial control system (ICS) interfaces with EGSE. Address critical issues in Ground Control verification, validation testing, surveillance, Operation and Maintenance (O and M), and launch systems interfacing with EGSE for Key Milestone Reviews (KMRs). Demonstrate expertise in operational support procedures for EGSE subsystems, including a comprehensive understanding of OP-0005, OP-0025, OP-0027, OP-0031, OP-0033, OP-0071, and OP-0075. Lead EGSE hardware and software research and development, system design, create test procedures, analyzing/reporting results, defining system requirements, and verifying/validating designs specifications. Coordinate with and communicate engineering positions to internal and external partners and technical forums, ensuring clear articulation in diverse engineering settings. Evaluate and enhance existing systems through redesign for improved operational efficiency or reparability. Direct the creation of innovative technology, hardware, or systems to fulfill mission-specific needs. Console operations expert in Launch Control Center, proficient in all EGSE subsystems. Understand EGSE for each subsystem and their impact on Launch Commit Criteria (LCC). Leverage Solumina and Maximo in Kennedy Design and Data Management System (KDDMS) for comprehensive testing documentation. Adhere to KSC standards (KSC-DE-512, KSC-E-165, KSC-E-166) in EGSE design, fabrication, and installation. Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Performing technical work in the area of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) maintenance, such as hardware and software design, configuration, operation, testing, modifications, or similar work related to EGSE; Providing technical guidance in system performance issues, requirement concerns, testing and support status, project status, and/or team resource assessments; Overseeing the technical aspects of a multi-disciplinary team in the design, development, integration, test, evaluation, operation, and/or maintenance of flight vehicles, payloads, ground systems, facilities, hardware, software, or associated systems. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations. If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position. Engineering degrees earned within the United States: Engineering degrees earned within the United States must be from a college or university that has at least one ABET accredited engineering program. Science and other related degrees earned within the United States: Science and other related degrees must have been awarded from colleges or universities that are accredited by recognized accrediting organizations. Science and other related degrees earned outside the United States: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs. These education credentials must be deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
