  Who Am I?My name is John Kubitz. I am engineer within the Global Advanced Engineering (GAE) department at Carpenter Technology Corporation. I am engaging and energetic and believe in providing my interns autonomy while ensuring that they receive the mentorship and support they need to succeed. I am passionate about engineering, design, new technology, and helping students get real world experience within Carpenter.

  What Do We Do?Business Unit: Global Advanced Engineering (GAE)Global Advanced Engineering (GAE) supports the operations at Carpenter Technology Corporation by purchasing and installing new equipment, modifying existing pieces of machinery to improve production or reliability, installing new safety systems to protect operators, and generally assisting with increasing capacity, efficiency, and safety throughout the mill.

  Ongoing ProjectsAssist engineers to specify, purchase, and install new equipment (saws, straighteners, grinders, furnaces, etc.).Reverse engineering existing equipment and parts into 3D models.Designing modifications to existing equipment.Calculations for equipment, foundations, and power distribution.PLC programming.

  Your Role as an InternUnder the general direction of the Project Engineer, you will assist and participate in projects from initial design to final construction phase. You will learn to apply electrical and controls engineering principles to the design, analysis, validation, and support of machines/equipment.Some specifics tasks include:Work closely with engineers as well as manufacturing plant personnel to perform miscellaneous fieldwork, create and update CAD drawings, design and specify new equipment and modifications to existing equipment, and assist with construction of equipment.Address Environmental Health and Safety issues and processes.Learn to estimate project costs.Learn how to and prepare information for the installation and/or modification of process equipment.Assist in start-up new and modified process equipment.Produce operator and maintenance manuals and final drawings.Learn practical electrical engineering calculations for sizing transformers, wires and raceways and how apply.Learn principles of Arc Flash safety and application of the National Electric Code (NEC).

  This internship is suited for an electrical engineering student or an electro-mechanical engineering student focusing on electric and controls.

  What Do We Require?You must be:Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Electrical Engineering or Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology with a minimum 3.0 GPA.Possessing a working knowledge of CAD systems (Solidworks/AutoCAD).Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location in a heavy industrial environment.Available to intern for a consecutive 12-month period.US Citizen or US Green Card Holder.

  Pay RangeHourly rates are based on: 1 - Program of study; 2 - Degree type (i e., Bachelor's, Master's); 3 - Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). Interns enrolled in an engineering-related bachelor's degree program will be paid $19-$23 per hour.
