Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work productEssential Duties:Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms highly complex structural analysis and design of ancillary (traffic) structures.Reviews designs and detailed drawings of ancillary (traffic) structures and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.Assists in the development of specifications for special ancillary (traffic) structures.Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for ancillary (traffic) structures.Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility.Investigates materials failures or fabrication problems; reviews test data and assists in determining cause of failing materials.Reviews literature, technical data, material specifications and procedures.Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.Represents the division at various meetings.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Trains engineering staff.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IV andndash; Performs all of the above plus:Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.Coordinates and/or monitors consultant contracts related projectsDevelops specifications for special bridge design details and projects.
