Description
This position provides support to the CFO and is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. The Controller will own, continuously iterate on, and optimize the day-to-day accounting functions, including revenue recognition, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and monthly financial reporting. He or she will also be hands on with, manage, and streamline the month-end close process by reviewing inefficiencies and adding processes that can make each month a smoother close than the last. The Controller will touch many parts of the organization, working closely with finance/accounting colleagues and partnering with key executives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
· Maintain and develop an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of accounting controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results.
· Responsible for the preparation of operating budgets and overseeing financial reporting.
· Forecast cash flow based on upcoming projects, expenditures, investments, and tax liabilities.
· Review, analyze, and present to the management team the month-end, quarter-end, and annual financial statements.
· Oversee and review yearly audit and preparation of tax returns by external CPA’s.
· Analyze and manage the process for work in progress (WIP) reporting and closing process.
· Perform margin analysis on projects for improved cost management and increased profits.
· Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions.
· Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
· Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements including reports for the company’s investors
· Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
· Evaluating accounting and internal control systems
· Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field/or equivalent experience.
5+ years of relevant experience as Controller or Director of Accounting
Residential construction accounting knowledge preferred.
Thorough knowledge of construction accounting and reporting. In-depth knowledge of GAAP.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
