Position Overview
Exact Sciences occupies a growing portfolio of offices, labs and warehouse buildings in the Madison area and across the U.S. Exact's Real Estate and Construction team is responsible for all the ground-up, addition, and interior remodeling construction of those buildings and spaces. The Real Estate and Construction Intern will have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to various aspects about real estate, design, construction and turnover while working in a real business environment.
Primary responsibilities will be to provide support services to Exact Sciences employees, primarily in the Madison locations, but with possible remote support for geographically diverse employees.
Due to the nature of construction project management, this position is intended to be fully on-site in Madison, WI but occasional remote/virtual work may be considered.
Essential Duties
Include but are not limited to the following:
Project management responsibilities:Assist with or complete tasks for the Real Estate project manager, to help free up their time and to learn the project management process and skills.Using the Procore software to monitor open action items that PM's need to be aware of, such as submittals, punch items, Disruption Prevention Forms, etc.Identify, track, communicate, and prioritize goals and tasks for yourself, external vendors (contractors, designers, etc.) and internal stakeholders (people from other teams).Reach out to stakeholders to explain issues, gather input and/or gain consensus/agreement.Coordinating schedules and setting up meetings.Attend and lead meetings, take notes, and follow up on action items, to ensure they are completed on time.Work in a detail-oriented manner with superior organization skills.Process Improvement:Help develop new and improve existing processes and documentation. This will likely require working closely with the Project Controls Team and other members of the Real Estate team or other stakeholders/partners.Identify, research and propose process improvement opportunities that would benefit the Real Estate team.Soft skill requirements:Be assertive and look for opportunities to help and support the Real Estate team and its mission/projects/goals.Communicate your skills, strengths, weaknesses and goals, so we can best integrate you for a win-win relationship.Be given general guidelines for a work item and be creative and proactive in finding and proposing solutions, regularly communicate hurdles, progress and next steps to your manager or project leader.Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects, tasks, priority levels and urgency levels, possibly for multiple internal project managers.Able and willing to work on tasks both alone and as part of a team.Build healthy, trusting relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners that enhance Exact's culture and enable projects to move more quickly (speed of trust).Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Be comfortable with various communication types, including email, phone, virtual and in-person.Uphold Exact's mission and our values of: accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.Scheduling requirements:Regular and reliable attendance, generally 7-8am to 4-5pm, Monday to Friday.Communicate any requests for schedule changes to the intern manager, prior to the change.Work on-site 5 days per week. Schedule any remote work requests in advance.Lead weekly or biweekly check-ins to present your status updates, task progress and receive guidance and feedback.Physical requirements:Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.Ability to work seated for approximately 80% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 20% of a typical working day. Depending on the current situation, you might be using a sit-stand desk that allows either sitting or standing, as you prefer.Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.Ability to work on a computer and phone simultaneously.Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.Ability to climb ladders and effectively access equipment and areas of buildings that include traversing unlevel surfaces and entering hot, cold, dirty, dusty, and loud environments.A remote work environment that is conducive to the above requirements, including adequate sound/visual isolation so that you can stay focused and engaged and keep all visual and audible company information confidential. Travel RequirementsAbility and means to travel between Madison Exact Sciences locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, licenses, certifications, or work experience requirements:High school diploma and currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program, or higher.A reasonable level of involvement with school, summer jobs, etc. to show an adequate level of interest in commercial real estate, design, construction, self-motivation and proactiveness, and ability to work well with teams and individuals.Technical skills:Basic Microsoft Windows PC computer skills to include Internet navigation and file storage (local and cloud).A reasonable level of competency with a Windows PC and with Microsoft Office to include Outlook email and calendar, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Teams.Demonstrated technical proficiency, self-motivation and ability to learn new software, such as Procore construction management software, which is Real Estate's primary project communication hub, Box and Smartsheet.Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Any skills or experiences related to the real estate, design or construction fields.Experience with Microsoft Project scheduling software.Preference given to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.

Salary Range:
$33,000.00 - $53,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
