  Description:

  The ED Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for managing the patient flow in the ED by organizing, coordinating, providing, and monitoring the care that is provided in the department. The primary focus is on quality and continuity of care. The successful candidate would demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in the care of emergency medicine patients. Duties would be delegated as consistent with each staff member’s scope of practice, strengths, and function within the overall plan of care for the emergency department. He/she would facilitate the growth and development of staff. In addition, he/she would empower staff by functioning as a role model, leader, resource person, negotiator, coach, mentor, and counselor as needed. This leadership position displays positive support for the mission and values of Skiff Medical Center. This position provides and supervises care delivered to all age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. In addition to the charge nurse duties, this position would be responsible for mentoring and instructing ED staff on clinical interventions, policies, procedures, and protocols associated with the Emergency Department and emergency nursing standards of care. This clinical resource position would be responsible for assisting in the education and orientation of the department. This position would be responsible to assist the ED staff to function at the highest level of evidence based practice care.

  The clinical resource nurse would be expected to function as the Trauma Nurse Coordinator for the ED and to record the unit’s trauma data and statistics. The candidate must demonstrate a responsibility for injury prevention and trauma outreach. The successful candidate will either have TNCC instructor status or the ability to obtain this status within one year of hire.

  QUALIFICATIONS: Previous charge nurse or leadership experience preferred.

  EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, TNCC (or within one year of hire) or ATCN, CEN or must obtain within one year of hire.

  EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years emergency nursing required. Previous charge nurse experience preferred.

  LICENSURE: Current license as a Registered Nurse from the State of Iowa required.

  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  · Directing the flow of the ED

  · Supervising RN’s and ED techs

  · Responsibility for injury prevention and trauma outreach

  · Performing direct patient care

  · Communicating with ED providers, EMS, patients, family, and assistive personnel

  · Ensuring quality measures in the ED are met

  · Instructing staff on current protocols and policies

  · Orienting current and new staff to the department

  · Authoring competencies and current policies regarding best practice in Emergency Nursing standards of practice.
