Curia provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
The chemistry department is responsible for the support of the manufacturing department and external customers. The routine functions of the laboratory are testing raw materials, in-process, end product, and stability samples. The department also performs particulate testing and tests plant water for production. The chemistry department is responsible for the successful transfer of new customer products and method testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform routine laboratory testing tasks using equipment such as balances, pipettes, pH meter, UV/Visible spectrophotometer, Total Organic Carbon Analyzer.
Have the potential and willingness to train on new techniques.
Maintain a detailed and accurate recording of activities and results on paperwork.
Execute protocols, author reports, basic PR investigations, and data summaries.
Understand and use basic risk assessment and root cause tools.
Train upon and understand methods, equipment, and standard operating procedures.
Provide training to others as needed.
Attend internal and external training on related subjects.
Trains on SOPs. Reviews SOPs for relevance and adherence to current practices.
Prepare paperwork, supplies, and equipment for use in the manufacturing environment and analytical laboratory.
Enter data into relevant data management systems.
Performs some limited data review such as tracking and trending of data.
Maintains laboratory equipment, laboratory housekeeping, and preparation of the laboratory for audits.
Participate in both intra- and inter-departmental cross-training on new techniques and procedures.
Assist with the evaluation of new equipment and processes.
Must be able to perform aseptic gowning with materials required to enter the aseptic processing area. Must be aware and comply with requirements for DEA clearance to work with controlled substances.
Proficient in interpreting simple data sets and giving summaries to Management.
Interact with other departments within the company for testing needs and schedules.
Have a basic understanding of regulatory requirements for the pharmaceutical industry.

Education and/or Experience:
Chemist I: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) related to physical science with less than 3 years pharmaceutical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Chemist II: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) related to physical science with three (3)+ years of pharmaceutical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Chemist III: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) related to physical science with five (5)+ years of pharmaceutical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Microsoft software. Should also be familiar with Instrument Manufacture based systems, i.e. Chemstation, Empower, etc.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in the use of operational theories of all common laboratory equipment. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to perform independent work related to projects and/or routine activities.
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with limited supervision. Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Be accessible to laboratory and plant area(s) and office staff and to use required office equipment.
