Madera Irrigation District Job AnnouncementCanal Operator ITemporary Full-Time**Salary Range: $36,130 - $63,710FLSA: Non-Exempt
Overview of Position: Under direction of the Operations Supervisor, regulate the flow and distribution of surface water to users through a series of canals and pipelines and record water usage. Assists with maintenance activities during off season.
Some Essential Duties include: **
Accepts requests for water and orders the needed amounts from the distribution systemEnsures the proper flow and delivery of surface water in an assigned areaRegulates head gates, turnouts, and diversions to ensure proper water levelsKeeps distribution system free of obstructionsKeep in constant contact with growers to advise them on their scheduled water ordersInspects system for leaks and breaksPrepares daily water delivery report, update electronic data entry to satisfy water ordersInforms Maintenance Department of any failure in the distribution systemWill be transferred into the Maintenance Department in the off-season and perform such duties as: building pipelines, installing boxes and gates, exposing underground utility lines, spraying pesticides, burning weeds, and concrete workPerforms related duties as neededQualifications : Education - Graduation from high school
Experience - Knowledge of crops and irrigation practices desired
Licenses, Registration, Accreditation, etc.: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License will be required at the time of appointment. Possession and proof of a driving record free of multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents for two (2) consecutive years.
