Position Description
The Apprentice is a position located in the Metro Water Services Operations Division. It is a physically demanding position that assists mechanics, electricians, and electronic technicians with all maintenance functions at treatment plants and pumping stations, with the intended goal of learning one of the three primary trades necessary to maintain operational equipment.
Employees in this position must be capable of using a variety of hand tools and small equipment, perform general cleanup, operate heavy equipment, or perform other related maintenance duties as required. Work may be in confined spaces, elevated areas, or vaults.
This position must be available for on-call rotations, and available after hours to respond to emergencies as necessary.

Our dedicated, diverse workforce provides high quality drinking water and the best in wastewater treatment, storm water management, and waste collection services for our customers in the Nashville-Davidson County area. Our employees work together to service more than 210,000 water and 216,000 sewer accounts along with over 150,000 curbside waste collection customers. Typical Duties
Conduct daily preventive maintenance inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Assist mechanics, electricians, and electronic technicians in performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
Observe, learn, and demonstrate increasing proficiency in at least one of the three trades employed in Operations (mechanical, electrical, or electronics).
Clean all work and operational areas.
Perform general yard work and landscaping related repairs for residential customer.
Assist mechanics, electricians, and electronic technicians in the repair and maintenance of all plant and pumping station equipment.
Assist mechanics in repairing small equipment used as part of routine work, such as chainsaws, hydraulic pumps, or pipe saws.
Assist mechanics in repairing and assembling pipes, including learning to weld.
Assist electricians in running conduit, pulling wire, and mounting electrical panels.
Assists Treatment Plant operations employees with cleaning tanks, or any unusual or difficult situations.
Learn to accurately complete maintenance work orders documenting repair and other work activities.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent
LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid Driver License

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of small tools and equipment used in construction and municipal maintenance work
Working knowledge of safety rules and occupational hazards
Experience reading construction drawings, blueprints or technical manuals
