Statement of Job:
The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking an experienced and dynamic Program Manager to lead our new Aircraft Maintenance Technician School that will be opening for the Fall Semester 2024. This is a full-time, fixed-length appointment through December 31, 2025. This is a soft money-funded position. The continuation of this position beyond this date is contingent upon funding and the needs of the university. The Aircraft Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive training program for aspiring aircraft maintenance technicians. The manager will optimize the curriculum, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations as well as the FAA-Approved Training Course Outline (TCO). The manager will foster a supportive learning environment that equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the aviation maintenance field. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to shape the future of aviation maintenance education and contribute to the success of our students. The successful candidate will have experience with a wide range of aircraft maintenance and repair, electronics, FAA regulations, physics for AMTS, and mathematical functions. They may be required to teach up to two classes per semester and travel to other UMA or University of Maine System (UMS) locations. Salary: The hiring salary range for this position is in the low to mid-60s and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion. Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of aviation regulations, specifically Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Aircraft & Powerplant (A&P)
Excellent organizational and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, faculty, industry partners, and regulatory authorities.
Problem-solving mindset and the ability to adapt to changing industry needs
Passion for aviation and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence in the aviation maintenance training field
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in aviation maintenance, aeronautical engineering, education, or a closely related field
Five to seven years of relevant experience in aircraft maintenance and/or FAA A&P
Licenses/Certifications:
Current FAA A&P Certification
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in aviation maintenance, aeronautical engineering, education, or a closely related field
Previous experience in educational program management or teaching in an aviation-related context
Current FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) Certification
Current FAA Part 61 Pilot Certification
