Please note that this position can be based in either Toronto, Kitchener, Halifax or Ottawa.
What you will do...
Write a wide variety of news stories in all three markets, keeping them updated with the latest information as needed
Sourcing the best local and breaking news to drive KPI metrics and audience engagement
Ensuring the accuracy, consistency and adherence to brand standards of all material on the websites (headlines, photos, captions, video, etc.)
Monitor and cross-post stories from our news partners, while keeping SEO, engagement, and brand guidelines top of mind
Collaborate with other CityNews newsrooms across the country
Manage and maintain social media channels
Champion digital best practises in each market by being the primary point of contact
Lead by example and assist in training staff on new digital products
Support new projects and ensure execution standards are met in all markets
Monitor analytics to ensure all KPIs are being met
Support and mentor team members in local markets and provide editing direction
Identify and peruse new areas of growth to meet CityNews objectives
Liaise with and execute sales initiatives
What you will bring...
Degree and/or diploma in journalism
3-5 years of hands-on breaking news storytelling experience
Must have an excellent command of the English language and an ability to write accurate, engaging and clickable headlines
Experience covering local breaking news
Must be familiar with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law
Experience copy editing and proofreading written content
Experience in analytics reporting
Knowledge of WordPress CMS, Adobe Photoshop and other applications in the Adobe Creative Suite an asset
Experience with video editing and television production is considered an asset
Familiarity with Burli is considered an asset
