Skilled work in the operation and maintenance of both conventional andultrafiltration/reverse osmosis treatment facilities with a combinedcapacity of approximately 13 million gallons per day.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Inspects plant equipment and machinery such as pumps, basinclarifiers, blowers, compressors, filters, and chemical feeders todetermine that all machinery is operating properly; makes minoradjustments to equipment; backwashes filters.
2.Inspects motors, bearings, and gear boxes to ensure proper operation;takes temperature of sludge and effluent at various stages; changesdrums and performs necessary maintenance and repair to well field,pumps, valves, motors, control boxes, etc.
3.Operates various types of pumps; regulates valves and observes flowlevel gauges and recorders; keeps daily log of shift operation; readsgauges and records information shown; makes judgment to insure properpumping and flow levels.
4.Collects samples for chlorine, fluoride turbidity and other tests;makes routine chemical analysis of various samples of water, wastewater,and streams; adds chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards;maintains reports and enters data into computer.
5.Maintains equipment, buildings, and grounds in a clean, efficient, andorderly manner. May assist in major repairs and installation of newmaterials, supplies, machinery and/or equipment.
6.Installs, maintains, removes and repairs various flow measuringdevices; performs water taps, installs chemical solution, air and waterlines, and meter boxes.
7.Assists in investigating water/sewer service complaints; locateswater/sewer lines for construction purposes.
8.Operates departmental vehicles, equipment tools as assigned.
9.Maintains on-line analyzers to include calibration, adjustments,cleaning and installation.
10.Operates, monitors and maintains variable frequency drives to includecleaning, changing, filters and fuses.
11.Operates and maintains security equipment to include repair,adjustment and installation.
12.Operates and maintains ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis equipmentto include cleaning, testing and membrane repair and replacement.
13.May be required to provide operational and safety training to otheroperators.
14.Must be able to work variable schedules.
15.May be required to serve as member of the City Contingency ResponseForce. May have to work unusual shift, long hours under demandingconditions.
16.Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School graduate or equivalent.
Must be able to demonstrate a working proficiency with computers toinput, recall, analyze test data and monitor plant operations. Abilityto use word processing, water chemistry models, spread sheets and othertypes of computer programs.
Must be able to perform wide range quantitative analysis of water usinga variety of laboratory equipment. Use of metric system to includemetric/English conversions, chemical dose rates, flow and volumecalculations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No supervisory responsibility required.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED
Must have an Oklahoma State drivers license with acceptable drivingrecord.
Incumbent may be required to obtain a Commercial Class B driverslicense.
Must have or obtain Class D Water license within 6 months of employment.Effective March 2003, Class C Water license must be obtained within 2years of employment. Must attend and participate in training to maintainlicenses.
Incumbent is encouraged and may be required to continue water trainingand upgrade license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must become knowledgeable of Risk Management Plan, Emergency OperationPlan, Emergency Respons Plan and security procedures. Lead and copper,bacteriological and other sampling plans. Maintain current workingknowledge of SCBA.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must lift, walk and carry light to moderate equipment and othersacks/items on a frequent basis. Must be able to read gauges and havesufficient color vision to run tests; must be able to climb stairs,crawl across pipelines, lift 50 pounds while climbing stairs; work fromladders; scaffolds, and other high places as well as underground vaultsand holes. Must be able to turn valve wheels with breaker bar if stuck;must be able to work on uneven, sometimes slippery surfaces; somekneeling required. Must be able to operate and service departmentequipment and vehicles.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND SAFETY CONCERNS
Major physical inconvenience or discomfort routinely present in the worksituation. About 20-90% of the time the incumbent is outdoors, dependingupon the assignment. Job requires the incumbent to be aware of andobserve safe working procedures. Such hazards not limited to noxiousodors, chemicals, diseases, hepatitis, hazardous materials, etc. Must besubject to working overtime, weekends, and evenings/holidays forextended periods of time. May be required to be on call.
