About the Role:
As a VMware Engineer Manager, you will be managing a team of 2 technical professionals, a VMware Administrator and a Data Engineering professional.
Some highly desired qualifications include:
VMware certification is highly desired.
PureStorage experience is highly desired
Maintaining the VMWare environment but if someone has knowledge of Unix and Linux it will make the candidates life easier but it isnt required -- More important is Network Attached Storage than Unix or Linux
NetApps currently, but eventually transitioning away from it to PureStorage
Data is backed up to the Cloud ( Azure is a + )
Responsibilities:
This person will play a crucial role in developing and implementing standards, procedures, and processes for our team. The majority of your time will be spent onsite, ensuring optimal performance and support for VMWare, storage, blade infrastructure, and system backups. This is a limited telework position, reflecting the hands-on nature of the work and the importance of maintaining top-tier systems.
Develop and implement high standards, procedures, and processes for the team.
Lead the resolution of issues related to VMWare, storage, blade infrastructure, and system backups.
Actively participate in the business continuity team, contributing your expertise.
Monitor and proactively respond to key performance metrics, such as system and storage utilization.
Foster a proactive approach within the team, working closely with the Network Operations Center.
Lead the recruitment, development, and retention of top talent.
Prioritize incoming requests, ensuring top priority items are addressed promptly.
Collaborate with cybersecurity to implement security solutions within the VMWare infrastructure services.
Establish and manage an on-call rotation to ensure 24x7x365 availability for issue escalation.
Apply comprehensive knowledge to troubleshoot complex problems and ensure the completion of challenging assignments.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Maintaining the VMWare environment - knowledge of Unix and Linux preferred but not required
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant management experience with 7 years of IT experience.
VMware certification is HIGHLY DESIRED – must be open to getting VMware certification within 30-60 days of starting.
Consideration given to candidates with 5 or more years of relevant education, training, and/or progressive experience.
Technical background with strong skills in VMWare.
Proficiency in storage protocols, including Fiber Channel, iSCSI, Multipath IO, SAN, FCoE.
Experience with storage technologies such as Netapp and PureStorage – PURESTORAGE A HUGE PLUS.
Familiarity with server infrastructure technologies, including Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS).
Strong proficiency in Windows, Unix/Linux, and understanding of file and block protocols.
Knowledge of security concepts, encryption, key management, certificate signing, and user authentication.
Experience with Barracuda and Kemp Load Balancers.
Proven ability to debug, troubleshoot, and problem-solve in a virtual environment.
Understanding of SCADA, IoT, or Operational Technology.
Expertise in backup technologies such as Veritas.
Participation in disaster recovery teams.
Familiarity with scripting or automation platforms for automatic provisioning of infrastructure components.
Cloud Services experience, including IaaS and delivering services in the cloud.
