Kansas State University invites nominations and applications for theposition of vice president for communications and marketing.
This is a pivotal and momentous time at Kansas State University. Thevice president will have the opportunity to harness the energy of therecently launched strategic plan, Next-GenK-State,as the university strives to become the model next-generation land-grantuniversity. The vice president will support the narration of all aspectsof the university\'s plan ensuring that news of its success is farreaching and celebrated. This will also be a historic time for theuniversity to refine its brand and messaging building upon the strongwork of each planning committee during this last year.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join an inspiring R1 institutionas its next chief communications and marketing officer to enhance theinstitution\'s communications, brand vision and public relationscampaigns, both nationally and internationally. The position reports toMarshall Stewart, senior vice president for executive affairs,university engagement and partnerships, and chief of staff. The nextvice president for communications and marketing, or VPCM, is anaccomplished communications professional of unquestioned integrity,sound judgment and considerable energy. The VPCM has a commitment tocollaborative work and empowerment, a passion for higher education, andthe ability to embrace, support and communicate K-State\'s vision tolead the next generation of land-grant universities, internally andexternally.
A member of the president\'s cabinet, the VPCM is responsible for theleadership, development, integration and implementation of institutionalbranding, marketing and public relations that communicate about andadvance the strategic direction and positioning of the university andits leadership. The successful candidate brings strong and provenstrategic leadership skills, experience with crisis management, theability to lead organizational change in a complex environment andexperience aligning talent and coordinating across the institution withnon-centralized communicators. Highly developed writing andcommunication skills are essential tools in communicating with multipleconstituent groups.
Leading the Division of Communications andMarketing,the next VPCM serves as the chief communications officer for KansasState University and leads a centralized strategic communications teamthat provides reputation management, crisis communications and proactivepublic relations efforts. Moreover, the VPCM will drive the internalcommunications at the institutional level while setting the overallstrategy for institutional responses, representing university leadershipthrough public communications and providing counsel to the universitypresident, provost, cabinet and deans. Serving on the crisis managementteam, the VPCM will respond to crises that develop during the year.
