We are better together and together We Are Altasciences.About the RoleThis position has supervisory responsibilities for the technician group, including daily workflow. direction, primary training responsibilities, initial quality control (QC) of documentation, and basic scheduling of the technician group. The employee in this job performs various tasks to facilitate and support the work and research of veterinarians, scientists, and clients by completing a variety of animal health activities in the areas of medicine, surgery, and drug therapy. This position operates largely independently, and cooperatively with the departmental coordinator, training coordinator, and department management to achieve department goals.What you'll do hereDirects and troubleshoots all daily workflow activities within the technician group, including scheduling of specific procedures and technicians as indicated by department management.Coordinates scheduled procedures with other departments where necessary, and works with the Veterinary Services Coordinator to ensure appropriate workload.Works to resolve ongoing or long term issues impacting workflow or production capabilities within the department.Has primary training responsibilities for the department, and assists in training procedures common to other departments. Works closely with the training coordinator to ensure all laboratory Animal Resources training needs are met in a timely manner.Manages the schedule of the veterinary technician group, ensuring adequate staffing on a daily basis.Provides secondary QC for departmental documentation. Monitors departmental documentation issues and provides training or initiates process improvements when necessary.Readily provides advice and counsel to junior level staff on complex medical issues, and serves as the primary conduit for information and issue resolution between the technicians and veterinarians or department management.Assists with clinical nursing for all medical cases within the facility. Assists with guidance and training for the technician group for all procedures and care of animals within the facility.Assists in providing therapeutic management for all cases requiring pharmacologic. treatment, and provides guidance for the veterinary technicians with regard to dose calculation, drug interactions, appropriate drug choices and routes of administration.Assists in providing screening exams on all species, to include physical exams, diagnostic exams, routine screening ultrasounds, and all other routine testing performed on animals.Provides guidance and training for the veterinary technicians with regard to appropriate screening methods and techniques, and result interpretation.May perform routine minor surgical procedures, to include tail and digit amputations, laceration repair, and advanced wound management. Induces and maintains anesthesia for all animals when required by Veterinary or Research staff, including performing anesthetic monitoring and dealing with anesthetic emergencies.
