Essential Functions:
Assists students on a daily basis with medical and/or nursing designatedprocedures (e.g. tube feeding, tracheotomy suctioning, toileting, briefchanging, seizure protocol, etc.) as well as addressing personal careneeds (e.g. hand washing, nutritional, etc.) and for the purpose ofproviding appropriate care for medically fragile students.
Implements behavioral plans daily for students as designed by the IEPteam for the purpose of assisting in meeting special education studentsneeds and providing a consistent environment under the direction ofcertified staff.
Assist students daily with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors.
Ability to maintain composure and self-regulate in stressful situationswhen student behavior escalates and/or becomes aggressive.
Implements education and behavioral programming daily under thesupervision of the classroom certified staff for the purpose ofdeveloping new skills for students.
Directly instructs students in a variety of activities in individual andgroup settings (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily livingskills, etc) for the purpose of meeting IEP goals under the direction ofcertified staff.
Directly assists students throughout the entirety of their school daywithin a variety of school environments and/or community environments(e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, fire drills,assemblies, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of providinga safe and positive environment conducive to learning.
Adapts and provides accommodations of classroom activities; assignmentsand/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose ofproviding an opportunity for special education students to activelyparticipate in classroom activities.
Aids students in and out of classroom (e.g. packing backpacks, notetaking, relationship building, field trips, social skills, etc.) for thepurpose of providing assistance to students needs for functional andsocial growth.
Participates in trainings opportunities (e.g. CPR, education strategies,specific disability education, etc.) for the purpose of acquiringinformation for the appropriate care for medically fragile students.
Collaborates with staff for the purpose of providing necessary supportand information related to the students progress as established in theIndividual Education Plan.
Maintains instructional materials and data sheets for the purpose ofensuring availability of instructional materials and/or providingreliable information regarding student progress under the direction ofcertified staff.
Assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond tothe individual needs of students.
The ability to work cooperatively and demonstrate effectiveinterpersonal relationships with other paras, professionals, communityagencies, and other groups.
Assist in safeguarding confidential information, and observingconfidentiality requirements.
Use of appropriate behavior management techniques to maintain a positiveclimate for learning.
Faithful, daily attendance and adherence to work schedules, includingassisting students through meal times.
Observe all district and interlocal policies uring activities.
Restrict cell phone usage to break and lunch times.
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuringthe efficient and effective functioning of the educational team.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need toupgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions ofthe job include: adhering to safety practices, operating standard officeequipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing andmaintaining accurate records; and using district approved crisisintervention techniques.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and followinstructions; and understand complex, multi-step written and oralinstructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required tosatisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: instructionalprocedures and practices; age appropriate student activities; safetypractices and procedures; conflict resolution; and stages of childdevelopment/behavior; and safe handling of blood-borne pathogens andcrisis de-escalation techniques.
