Kelly Science & Clinical is currently seeking an Upstream Process Development Scientist for a biopharma/biotech company in near Southwest Houston. The Upstream PD Scientist will focus on assisting current process development staff in the planning, execution, and analysis of studies targeted to optimize the company’s current viral vector platform for clinical products. The role will center on suspension cell culture – i.e. routine cell expansion, production of viral vectors, small and large scale bioreactors, and filtration.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Perform routine suspension cell culture (media preparation, sampling, cell counting, passaging)
Perform routine cell screening for product-specific cell line development
Assist / execute viral vector production batches in non-GMP and GMP environments
Assist in the preparation of buffers/reagents
Draft, edit, and/or review data capture forms, batch production records, standard operating procedures or standard work elements for PD equipment and unit operations
Maintain responsible laboratory protocols, data capture, lab notebooks, and computer records
Assist in the preparation and procurement of raw materials, consumables, inventory control as well as cleaning and waste disposal to support PD operations
Education/Skills Required:
BS in Biology or related field with 4 years of industry experience
Experience working with various sized shaker flasks and small-scale bioreactors in a process development setting is required
Experience with media preparations, monitoring cell culture, routine sampling, preparation, execution, and analysis of cell expansion
Understanding of operations within a biosafety cabinet, cell culture incubators, centrifugation equipment, aseptic technique, and associated general cleaning procedures
AAV bioprocessing and development in a GMP environment would be a plus
Basic understanding of drafting and execution of Standard Operation Procedures
Excellent time-management and forward-thinking skills
Ability to troubleshoot, solve problems, and think critically
Must display effective oral and written communication
Experience using MS Office and basic cell kinetic analysis
