Classification Summary:Responsible for the safety analysis of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS/UAV) and operational planning of UAS flights.
Classification Standard Duties:Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff Review UAS technical, performance, operational, and maintenance data on UAS. Perform risk analysis. Utilize safety, reliability, engineering, and/or best industry methods for operational assessments. Plan and implement flights of UAS in the national airspace system. Perform related duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, EquivalencyRequired Education:Bachelor's degree in a related field.Required Experience:Ten (10) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.Equivalency:Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.Required Certification/License: None
Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKNOWLEDGE: Principles and practices of organization and administration. Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and review UAS technical, performance, operational, and maintenance data on new NMSU owned and customer UAS. Review and document each subsystem for new customer aircraft which is required to add the vehicle to the FAA Certificate of Authorization (COA). Perform mission risk assessments and analysis as part of FAA COA Requirements. Participate in flight operations research and testing stateside, at out of state locations and internationally. Develop safety and risk assessment reports, safety and test site procedures and standards, lessons learned reports, and other reports as needed. Maintain currency on test site UAS assets, participate in internal UAS virtual and hands on training, and support customer and STEM related training events. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
