  This Opportunity

  WSP is currently initiating a search for Full Time - Traffic System Operator II - Traffic System Coordinator II for our client’s Hauppauge, NY office.

  The Traffic System Operator II - Traffic System Coordinator II shall have a detailed familiarity with Long Island's roadways, understand communications protocols and be knowledgeable on the location and purpose of all ITS elements. Candidates must be capable of independently following procedures and direction with minimal oversight and supervision. The successful candidate must be willing to work all shifts as needed including overnights, weekends and holidays.

  Schedule: A monthly rotating schedule that includes 5 consecutive days at work and 2 consecutive days off

  Your Impact

  Operate the TMC’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)

  Monitor radios/police scanners, CCTV displays, and system map for incidents

  Monitor computerized traffic signal and ramp metering activities

  Dispatch traffic signals malfunctions and highway maintenance calls to appropriate personnel or jurisdictions;

  Perform record keeping tasks, keyboard entries and generate daily reports;

  Monitor and update all variable message signs including dial-up portable signs

  Generate and display traffic related messages on the VMS/PVMS

  Troubleshoot and resolve system related problems

  Interact with maintenance personnel on system performance

  Monitor and assist coworkers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information

  Assemble, collate, and prepare roadwork/construction information in order to formulate daily, weekly and OpenReach/511NY Road Work reports

  Administer On-The-Job Training

  System Operator I responsibilities

  Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company

  Who You Are

  Required Qualifications

  A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required

  Must possess a valid Driver’s License

  Must be willing to work all shifts including weekends, overnights and holidays

  Proficient with various computer/software systems - including MS Office, GIS and web-based information systems

  Must have an aptitude for providing exceptional customer service

  Applicants must be able to pass a State Police background/criminal history check

  In-dept knowledge of local roadways

  Minimum 3 years of experience with TMC type facility and/or traffic management

  Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  Oral and written communication

  Computer/Software – including MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases

  Public, internal and external relations (works well with internal, external and partner groups and individuals)

  Mentor and training new staff, and able to respond to problem situations 24/7/365Analytical and organizational kills

  Preferred Qualifications

  In-depth knowledge of local roadways

  Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with others in a team environment

  Strong attention to detail

  Ability to perform with minimal supervision

  Ability to multi-task and remain calm during high pressure situations

  Compensation and Benefits:

  Expected Salary: $38,600 $63,690

  WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.
