  This is a part-time position located at the Pearl River Welcome Center in Pearl River, LA.

  Applicants applying to this announcement should be aware that this is a part-time WAE (when actually employed) position without benefits, and shall not exceed 1245 hours in a 12-month period.

  Must be willing to work Weekends & Holidays.

  Must be Responsible and Dependable.

  Must be able to Lift up to 30 lbs.

  Must be Flexible with work schedule.

  Provides visitor information to the traveling public, answers questions, provides directions, information not always limited to tourism information. Participates in required training, does research on events and activities. Computer skills essential. Foreign language skills absolutely a plus. Friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable about Louisiana, of course. Occasional custodial duties. Flexible schedule a must. Available weekends. At least one (FTE) year of customer service required. Must show up on time for assigned shifts.

  Qualifications

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  One year of experience in tourism information work, public relations, customer service, or teaching.

  SUBSTITUTIONS:

  College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

  NOTE:

  Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

  Job Concepts

  FUNCTION OF WORK:

  To provide information to tourists and to perform incidental clerical and custodial functions.

  LEVEL OF WORK:

  Entry.

  SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

  Close from a Tourism Supervisor or higher level staff.

  SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

  None.

  LOCATION OF WORK:

  Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Tourism - Welcome Centers statewide.

  JOB DISTINCTIONS:

  Differs from Tourism Information Counselor 2 by the degree of supervision received and the absence of experienced level duties.

  Examples of Work

  EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

  Welcomes tourists and determines their travel interests and needs.

  Provides information on localities, museums, parks, events, and other attractions to visit.

  Assists travelers with hotel reservations and weather reports from the Internet.

  Provides directions, shortest routes or scenic routes.

  Distributes brochures and maps.

  Answers questions from visitors, by phone and mail, regarding the state, its history and its culture.

  Conducts research by reading industry publications, visiting travel websites and consulting with others to keep abreast of upcoming events and to broaden knowledge of the state.

  Participates in educational study tours.

  Keeps daily records or files; stocks brochure racks; orders supplies/brochures; performs other clerical duties.

  Attains CPR certification and becomes re-certified annually.
