The Title IX Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment at the university by overseeing compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA), NYS Education Law 129-b and other state and federal laws, SUNY and University policies that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex or gender; and addressing issues related to sexual misconduct and harassment. This position requires a deep understanding of Title IX laws, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to advocating for equity and fairness across the campus community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and implement programs and initiatives designed to educate and support faculty, staff, and students regarding their rights and obligations under Title IX, VAWA, NYS Education Law 129b b and other state and federal laws, SUNY and University policies including reporting options/responsibilities, support services, University policy and applicable grievance procedures, and confidential resources.
Oversee, coordinate, and maintain processes for receiving all Title IX complaints and reports of sexual harassment, sexual violence, and related allegations of misconduct and manage cases in compliance with University policy and state and federal law. Ensure investigations of reports and complaints of sexual misconduct are adequate, reliable, timely, confidential, and impartial. Act as an Informal Resolution facilitator when necessary.
Serve as point of contact and facilitator for any consultants the University may engage to address components of the work of the Office of the Title IX Coordinator.
Ensure ongoing compliance with Title IX, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA), NYS Education Law 129-b by collecting and analyzing data, writing comprehensive reports, and maintaining records of investigations.
Develop and implement infrastructure for continual assessment and improvement of experiences related to Title IX. Identify systemic problems relating to complaints and make recommendations to improve campus policy, response, and prevention as appropriate for student, faculty, and staff.
Collaborate with leadership and campus constituencies to disseminate information and redesign processes to better address the accommodations needs of affected individuals.
Collaborate and coordinate with compliance partners across the institution to support the University's overlapping compliance needs and responsibilities, including various reporting obligations.
Serve as the institutional custodian of record of all Title IX, harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct (including sexual assault and inappropriate sexual conduct), domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and related retaliation records for internal and external reporting purposes by maintaining documentation and records of complaints, investigations, and reports. Safeguard their confidentiality.
Serve on various University planning and policy making committees as necessary; recommend and participate in the development of University policies and procedures in Title IX and related areas.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Experience administering Title IX laws, regulations, and best practices in addressing discrimination and sexual misconduct.
3 or more years of experience in conducting investigations in Title IX or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution.
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive situations with privacy and empathy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Strong organizational and leadership abilities to coordinate multiple initiatives and manage complex cases effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:
A master's degree in law, higher education administration, social work, or a related field.
A juris doctorate and/or relevant legal background is advantageous.
Certification or specialized training in Title IX compliance and investigation procedures.
Prior experience working in a higher education setting dealing with Title IX-related issues.
Familiarity with case management software and data analysis for tracking and reporting purposes.
