About This Role:
Thomas County is comprised of six communities, three unified schooldistricts, and is the economic hub of northwest Kansas. Thomas Countyhas a population of approximately 7,800.
Colby, the county seat, is known as the \"Oasis of the Plains\" and islocated on
I-70, 53 miles from the Colorado border.
Thomas County is home to Colby Community College, K-State\'s NorthwestResearch-Extension Center, and the Colby Aquatic Park and Walking Trail.
There are 402 farms in Thomas County and 669,940 acres of farmland. Theprimary sector of the agriculture industry in Thomas County is grainfarming followed by beef cattle ranching and farming.
Extension agents are professional educators who serve as a link betweenKansas State University and communities across Kansas. Agents arejointly responsible to the director of K-State Research and Extension(represented by a designated administrator) and the local extensionboard.
This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluationof research-based educational programming related to agriculture andnatural resources. Programming may include but is not limited to:agronomy; livestock production; agricultural economics, management, andpublic policy; horticultural production and management; and naturalresources conservation and environmental stewardship.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation ofresearch-based educational programming related to agriculture andnatural resources. Programming may include but is not limited to:agronomy; livestock production; agricultural economics, management,and public policy; horticultural production and management; andnatural resources conservation and environmental stewardship.Share responsibility for 4-H youth development programming relatedto agriculture and natural resources.Share responsibility for community vitality programming that helpsour communities become better places to live, work, and play.Programming will strengthen social, civic, economic, andtechnological capacity of communities through leadership developmentand civic engagement.Successful extension programs require agents to:Identify local needs and emerging issues related to K-StateResearch and Extension\'s five Grand Challenges (water andnatural resources; community vitality; health; developingtomorrow\'s leaders; and global food systems) by engaging withprogram development committe s and other community organizationsand professionals.Design appropriate educational strategies to engage clientele.Strategies might include educational programming in acommunity-based setting; events and activities that provideexperiential learning opportunities; use of innovativetechnologies; individual educational consultations; and groupfacilitation.Collaborate with local partners to meet community andprogramming needs.Develop and implement strategies to serve diverse audiences andto ensure K-State Research and Extension is an equal opportunityprovider of educational programming.Collect and communicate evidence of educational program impact.Cultivate expertise in a subject matter competency area byengaging as a member of a Program Focus Team.Pursue internal and external funding to support educationalprogramming.May periodically be assigned to serve as the local unit directorproviding administrative oversight for fiscal operations;coordination of personnel; the development, delivery, and reportingof program impact; and other administrative functions assigned bythe director for extension\'s representative and the extensionboard.Serve as a member of the Thomas County team, cooperating in theplanning and delivery of unit-wide programming and related events.
