  Description

  The School of Medicine at Texas A&M University seeks to fill a full-time position as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies (ADGS). This is an 11 month appointment with a start date in the Spring of 2024. Applicants will be considered for the rank of Tenure-Track or Tenured Associate Professor or Professor, depending on qualifications. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies will provide leadership for graduate functions related to the School, working collaboratively with the central administration and faculty members to support and advance the strategic goals of the University and School. The chosen candidate will have strong leadership skills and be forward thinking, team-oriented and understand the critical importance of our graduate teaching, pre-professional, and research missions. All tenured and tenure-track faculty members are expected to make significant contributions in the areas of scholarly research/ creative work, teaching, and service.

  Texas A&M University is a top-tier research university with >$1billion of annual research funding and an outstanding record of training undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The School of Medicine is the largest of five Colleges/Schools at the Texas A&M University Health Science Center, which is based on the main university campus in Bryan/College Station, Texas and includes campuses distributed throughout the State of Texas.

  The Associate Dean for Graduate Studies is responsible for the central oversight for the School of Medicine graduate studies programs (Medical Sciences MS and PhD, MD-PhD, MD Plus and EDHP). The Associate Dean for Graduate Studies will serve as the primary advisor to the Dean for all academic related issues relative to the topics of graduate studies (see details at https://medicine.tamu.edu/academics/graduate-studies/index.html).

  The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, willingness to serve in a broad variety of roles as needed, high level of integrity, be dedicated to the mission of the School and University, show successful team building, have significant graduate education accomplishments, and a curriculum vitae that reflects strong academic leadership qualities. The successful candidate will hold a faculty position in one of the nine academic departments within the School of Medicine, to be determined based on the candidate's qualifications.

  The successful candidate will be expected to:

  Provide administrative leadership and oversight of graduate academic programs

  Provide oversight of recruiting, admissions, and internal/external communications for graduate programs

  Partner with our undergraduate programs to enhance recruitment/pipeline programs to foster scholarship and collegiate academic success for prospective graduate students

  Work with the School of Medicine Executive Committee and Department Heads leadership team

  Ensure compliance with accreditation standards as required by SACS and Texas A&M University as it pertains to our graduate programs

  Direct program assessment through annual internal and external program reviews

  Work closely with the Office of Evaluation and Assessment to ensure all mandatory assessment and reporting for our graduate programs are conducted annually

  Provide quarterly reports to the Executive Committee and Department Heads leadership team around efforts and data for the School's graduate programs

  Serve as liaison between the School and the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies, including service on the Graduate Operations Committee and Graduate Council

  Offer internal programs supporting career development, professional skills, internal and external conflict resolution, and crisis management for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers

  Manage graduate program budgets

  Supervise associated staff

  Make significant contributions in the areas of scholarly research/ creative work, teaching, and service

  Other duties as assigned

  Qualifications

  Required Qualifications:

  MD, PhD, MD/PhD, JD or equivalent professional degree

  Minimum of six years of related senior administration experience

  Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

  Preferred Qualifications:

  A clear commitment to graduate education, demonstrated by leadership in mentoring graduate students and participation in graduate curricular and instructional development.

  Administrative experience indicating the ability to develop and communicate a strategic and focused vision about graduate education.

  Strong academic credentials commensurate with a faculty appointment in one of the School of Medicine’s academic units

  Experience serving in leadership positions.
