  Tenure Track Faculty Position - Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University

  The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University (Ithaca campus) invites applications for a faculty position (all ranks considered) in the broad areas of natural and engineered systems and their robustness, resiliency and sustainability in the face of climate change and extreme events. Some areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  Resilience and/or robustness to extreme events, natural catastrophes, human-induced disasters, and compound hazardsStructures under mechanical and environmental fluctuationsAdvances in subsurface and above-ground systems for sustainable climate solutionsSustainable materialsAdvances in sensing systems for emissions quantification, fate and transport of pollutantsThe intersection of human, urban and ecosystem healthMarine energyResiliency and robustness to high percentages of intermittent energy sourcesCoastal extremes and sea level riseWater scarcitySmart infrastructureInter-disciplinary approaches to robustness, resiliency and sustainability of nature and the built environment

  Computational, theoretical, or experimental research programs are encouraged. In general, we prioritize the overall originality and promise of the applicant's work, rather than the sub-area of specialization. This includes fundamental science that informs applied research fields as well as impactful applied research. While not required, utilization of our significant laboratory facilities, including the Bovay Laboratory Complex, the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Teaching Laboratory, the DeFrees Hydraulics Laboratory, and the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source will be favorably considered.

  The potential to form large research teams or to address complex problems will be viewed favorably, as well as potential linkages to Cornell Tech (NYC campus). Faculty will have outstanding opportunities and are expected to collaborate with faculty, research scientists, and graduate students across many Fields (e.g., Earth Sciences, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Operations Research and Information Engineering, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Natural Resources and the Environment, Design and Environmental Analysis, Landscape Architecture), and Centers/Facilities (e.g., Center for Advanced Computing, Center for Applied Math, Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, Institute for Computational Sustainability, AI for Science Institute, AFRL Regional Network Mid-Atlantic Hub).

  Candidates must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field and are expected to establish an outstanding,

  externally funded research program as well as to contribute fully to both undergraduate and graduate instruction in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Applicants at the assistant professor level are strongly encouraged and candidates at the associate and full professor levels will also be considered. The salary range reflects an aggregate of qualifications and disciplines across Cornell University.

  Assistant Professor: $79,400 - $211,600

  Associate Professor: $97,500 - $239,000

  Full Professor: $109,500 - $329,600

  The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
