Posting Summary
Rutgers School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant in the NJ Safe Schools Program at Rutgers School of Public Health (SPH).Principal Investigator and Director (PI), Prof. Derek G. Shendell, is seeking 1-2 Temporary Research Assistant(s) with strong quantitative and/or qualitative skills to contribute to work with data management systems and perform data analyses to facilitate the accomplishment of applicable survey-based and training courses program evaluation related research objectives. Temporary Research Assistant(s) will also provide various programmatic activities in support of new proposals and existing studies.Among the duties for this position are:
  • Assist the PI and NJSS Assistant Director with the development of new and existing programs and research studies.
  • Contribute to overseeing deidentified data management systems for primary data collection and secondary data analyses (data from public government agency sources). Works with faculty/PI and NJSS staff to help setup, create, and integrate data collection projects and surveys into workflow of data management.
  • Prepare datasets and provide supporting documentation for statistical analysis.
  • Interact with PI, NJSS staff and other partners/investigators to analyze study data for technical reports, journal articles, and conference presentations. This may include writing and contributing to poster presentations and publications.
  • Assist PI, Assistant Director and other NJSS full-time staff with ANCOR, Expense Management (mileage/tolls and other travel reimbursement for NJSS), Marketplace, and NJ school district and high school purchase order-related check deposits.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Prior data analysis experience (in design and primary and/or secondary research data collection-to-management and analysis).
  • Knowledge of database types; research methodologies; hypothesis testing, primary data capture, manipulation, and coding.
  • Knowledge (basic level) of state and federal agencies concerning worker and public safety and health.
  • Proficient use of computers and data management and analysis software (Microsoft Office and SAS, SPSS or similar like R).
  • Must have a flexible schedule that allows for variable shifts throughout the week during morning and afternoon/early evening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A current public health student (MPH or MS) potentially preferred.
